ELDORADO, Texas — Child welfare officials are scrambling to find foster homes for dozens of girls removed from a secretive West Texas religious retreat built by polygamist leader Warren Jeffs after a 16-year-old living there complained of physical abuse.
Officials from Texas Child Protective Services, escorted by state troopers, took 52 girls, ages 6 months to 17 years, from the remote retreat on Friday afternoon.
By the end of the day, 18 were put legally into state custody, and CPS spokeswoman Marleigh Meisner said interviews would continue Saturday. A warrant has been issued for at least one individual.
The girls put in state custody were believed to be in danger, Meisner said. "Those are the ones we believe have been abused or they are in imminent risk of harm, and it would not be safe for those children to remain in the compound," she said.

Hand raising his own personal harem?
Once again I'm wondering - where does the funding come from?
That sad part is it's taken this long to do it.

Hard to believe that girls/women are treated this way in this day.
It's very sad it took so long...these poor girls.

Were they removed for physical abuse or polygamy?
Where did the girls come from?? Are they the guy's children? If so, where are the boys? If not, where were they originally taken from?
Okay I just read the article and gathered that there were about 150 people living there. So I'm assuming these girls are the children of various cult members.
Poor things. I hope they adjust to the "outside world" and can live something like a normal life.

It doesn't matter if they are his kids or not. He's basically dealing in "slavery" and it is not acceptable.
I was just wondering if they were taken from other people or not.

Here is an update I read today. (http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/04/06/texas.ranch/index.html)
ELDORADO, Texas (CNN) -- More than 200 women and children have been removed from a Texas ranch that's home to members of a polygamist sect, but authorities have not identified the girl who called them with allegations of abuse.
Since Thursday, authorities have removed 159 children and 60 adults from the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS) compound in Eldorado, Texas.
Eighteen of the girls have been taken into state custody. Authorities believe all "had been abused or were at immediate risk of future abuse," a state spokesman said

Don't worry. He will. He will in jail too. Remember, there is an honor code amongst criminals and they are not fond of chili mos.

It's sad that criminals must dish out the punishment that us good folks seem to have a problem with.

I have been following this story since it broke. They had some of the parents on the today show. You can tell they are 10-92. "I loved my children" "They love me" Sounds like a big mess. Listening to the parents speak out makes you wonder what is really going on in this world today.

31 of 53 teen girls from polygamist sect are pregnant or have children (http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/042908dntexpolygamist.ac3e120c.html)
AUSTIN — Texas child welfare officials say that more than half the teen girls — 31 of the 53 under the age of 18 — swept into state custody from a polygamist sect’s ranch already have children or are pregnant.
While many of the children’s mothers and court-appointed lawyers kept up a barrage of criticism of the state’s removal of 463 children from their families, Child Protective Services officials countered today with the most detailed information to date on how many young girls at the ranch have been pregnant.
“Thirty one of 53 girls between 14 and 17 have children, are pregnant or both,” CPS spokesman Patrick Crimmins said.

That's terrible...It must be pretty bad if they take away the really young children from their mothers. That's not done unless things are REALLY bad. Sad to say that the mothers have been brainwashed.
I'm glad they have removed all the children . . . .if not, it will be more children having children . . . . these are some very disturbed people. Just watching the "mothers" interviewed on the different shows reminds me of zombies. The mothers are as guilty as the fathers in my opinion. The only innocents here are the children.
