View Full Version : Abandoned car, abandoned dog?

My husband drives I-59 daily. He just came in and told me that for the past three days there has been an older white sedan on the northbound side of the interstate approximately one mile south of the airport.

Here's the part that has me a bit troubled. He said that for the past two days a large white dog has been sitting behind the car, as if it is waiting for its owner(s) to return.

Husband said there are no houses in the immediate area, which makes him think the dog is connected in some way to that car.

I could be way off base, but if the car owners did abandon that dog, it just breaks my heart.

I know we have a lot of animal lovers here, and thought someone might be in a position to check on this dog.

I know our law enforcement friends here can check on the car. :smt001

Could he see if the dog was tied to the car or not?

Isn't that in Jones County?

Yeah, but they will probably refer it to Highway Patrol since it is on the interstate.

Sounds like something may have happened to the owner and the dog won't leave the car. I hope that someone gets to check it out and that the owner is ok as well as the dog.

If you want to, tell him to get the tag number, I can run it to see if anything is up with the car.

I'll PM you my cell number in case I'm not here when he gets the info or Bahlk can handle it.....he's good like that! :smt023

I just talked to my husband. He found the dog lying in "some weeds". He walked up to it, and it let him pet. He tried to get the dog in the car and the dog took off. He is trying to get the dog so we can at least get it in a safe place. We are scared it is going to get hit. Wish him luck.

The dog ran off into a field. My husband tried his best to get the dog to get in the car. Well, at least we know the dog is not tied to the car so she has a chance to survive. Hopefully, she will walk up into the yard of someone who loves dogs or the owner will come back for her.

Did yall call the HWY Patrol? I wonder if the dog would come to your husband if he had some food. If the dog has been there a while he/she is probably hungry. And I also wonder if the dog may be trying to lead someone to the master.

My apologies...we left to run errands and weren't here to respond to your inquiry about whether the dog was tied to the car.

Thank you for sending your husband to check on the dog.

I knew MH would respond. :smt001

I hope she is able to get access to food, water and shelter. Equally important, I hope she finds some loving people to take care of her.

I think that is why I frequent this place. There are some really nice people that CARE around here.

Ok I stopped by tonight and checked out the car, registration came back to a guy in Laurel. There were no wants or warrants on the car according to the tag information and everything seemed to be in order, no sign of the dog though.

Don't mean to sound morbid No-Halo, but, if the dog wouldn't leave the car , UHHHH you did check in the trunk didn't you. It sounds horrible but you never know. Why hasn't H'way Patrol checked it and tagged it to be towed? I bet if I left my truck they would have it towed away in no time at all. A dog wouldn't stay around a vehicle like that for no reason-something is up with that!

Yes XC I checked out the car as I said in the earlier post, without the keys I was only able to sniff around but nothing seemed out of the ordinary with it. It had been there several days so if anyone was in the trunk it shouldnt have been any problem to notice.

I'll come by and get you next time so we can both check it out. :smt118

There's probably a really simple story that would make this whole thread hilarious.

I hope.

I wasn't trying to tell you how to do your job, you know how I worry though :ohnoes: I guess you would have smelled something at the point you checked it, I just love dogs so much I know how they react if something happens to their momma or daddy. Come get me anytime, you know I love detectiving!:kekeke:
