Indian baby born with two faces doing well (http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080406/wl_asia_afp/healthindiababy;_ylt=AkNimuI2Lr_KIamBH_sOys4DW7oF)
NOIDA, India (AFP) - The parents of an Indian infant girl born with two faces say that she is eating and breathing normally despite having two pairs of eyes and lips and two noses.
The baby, who is yet to be named, was born to factory worker Vinod Kumar and his wife Sushma three weeks ago in northern India and has been drawing a stream of curious observers and others who consider her a deity in this deeply religious Hindu-majority country.
"I had never seen something like this in my life so naturally I was a little scared when I first saw her," her father said at the weekend at the family's mud-and-brick house in Noida town, about 50 kilometres (30 miles) northeast of New Delhi.
The girl has found easy acceptance in Kumar's large, extended family, who say they have no plans to consult doctors to check if the girl can receive treatment or corrective surgery.
"The doctor said everything is normal when she was born. So where's the need to get medical help?" said the child's father.
Aside from being two-faced, yeah, I guess that's pretty normal.
But didn't that Kumar dude get up with somebody and get stoned and had an adventure trying to get to White Castle?

I know it's inappropriate, but I can't help thinking that in 18 years she's gonna be the star of some pimp's stable.

Anybody ever notice how some of the most odd and unusual birth defects come out of India? I don't know what they are doing over there but apparently they either have some serious negative karma workin against em or either they are faking some of it in order to garner attention and perhaps the almighty dollar. Not saying that this is the case right here, but I do know of some folks right here in the Pine Belt that are always poor mouthing and they have every imaginable mality known to man, but show no symptoms other than laziness and constant despair. For example I find it hard to believe that a person that supposedly is a bad diabetic and has severe health problems (according to them) will be telling you how bad it is out of their own mouths in between licks on a sucker and go back for seconds on desserts... You know, that dog just don't hunt...

I concur, tis a possibility... I was thinking literal though. I have seen numerous specials on the Dis. channel about birth defects or such from India that end up trying to raise the funds to come to America. Now I'm sure that most of those are legit or either the Disc. channel is run by incompetent nincompoops... However, the internet and the print media has always got some anomoly to report from Budapest or wherever that just seems awfully "Ripleys' Believe it or not" B.S.

Well, there are over 1 billion people there, so they have 4 times the chance as Americans do for birth defects to pop up just from the numbers. But they also have a lot more pollution there than we do along with all sorts of other weird things in their ecology than we do.

Kinda strange huh, how America is deemed the "Devil" that is destroying the planet? I figured that they may just be taking excessive shots of Cobra Venom or some wierd shat like that.:smt118

Maybe we should have a humanitarian drive or something and get the U.N. to airdrop some condoms or something so they won't have so many chilren... they must not have T.V.'s or Ataris there. 1 Billion people is a bunch of folks...

I am disturbed a little about this article- there was just a surgery to remove the "extra" arms and legs of a child born with two arms and two legs.
1. Is there prenatal care in India?
2. What is in their water, food, life styles, etc. that is causing such odd abnormalities?
These are not like normal birth defects we have here in America- these are freakish abnormalities which make me think there is something else going on over there. It is really sad that these children are born this way and that they will have to go though life scarred physically, emotionally, or both.

I think that there may be just as many deformities in unborn babies in the "civilized" word but it is much easier to detect and to abort.

India is still very much a developing country. I was watching something last night about the growing middle class in India, and in watching the video that focused on one 21 year old girl who still lives with her parents, to get to work, she crosses streets that are dirt...she passes by a literal river of garbage with people rummaging for whatever they can find, beggars on the street tied next to sacred cows. All of that mixed in with tons of people living in extremely close quarters.
I'd say that if there is prenatal care, it's only available to those who can afford it...which aren't many. From what I've read, environmental regulations are not well-enforced and many times it's just easier and cheaper to pay the fines rather than comply with regulations to begin with.

I met some friends from India when I was in college. I like chicken curry...:-D I let my redneck foot in my mouth though when I saw it and didn't know what it was and asked who brought the nacho dip??? It looked like a Mexican bean dip.. had cheese, curry chicken, brown color/texture.. and they had tortilla chips... what was an uncultured fella like myself to think... I asked for a Corona:smt105

It would be really interesting to know if she has two brains also. I wish the parents would let the doctor's examine her.
