Finally, more and more are realizing that biofuels, aka ethanol, aren't such a great thing and that they cause a lot more problems than they solve. Link below is from Heritage Foundation and called "Time for Second Thoughts on the Ethanol Mandate":

For those of you who are cynical about conservative base publications, here is a link from Time Magazine called "The Clean Energy Scam":

Not sure if congress or the president will end up reversing the mandate to increase biofuel production.

ethanol is a good thing...

ethanol from corn is a bad thing

seaweed and algae is where its at... and a LOT more per acre... plus we dont compete with our food source for fuel... and did i mention that stuff grows faster than kudzu?

Good point Rem.
I was very pro bio-diesel for a long time, until I took a look at it's global impact. Ethanol is the same way. Just remember, anything "mandated" by the communists (out govt.) will ALWAYS be a bad idea.

Another thing people forget to look at is "organic" foods.
Anytime an American eats an "organic" meal a few hundred people die world wide, but we Americans are so rich & well insulated that we don't care, and why should we?? we're better than all those poor starving people in the third world. After all we have ipods.

Bio-diesel is a good thing to make yourself if you have access to the used grease from a catfish house. A lot of people are doing it who have access to a kitchen that uses a lot of grease and they are saving that old grease from being thrown out somewhere. BUT, to mass produce it is causing lots of problems. Corn used to be grown for food, feed, and as ingredients in lots of things. Now that certain farmers are trying to jump in on the gravy train, it's caused food shortages, massive deforestations, and skyrocketing grain prices and it's not helping the environment one bit.

The problem is that due to politics and the corn farmer's lobbyists, corn is what is being used in this country and it is not helping the economy or the environment one bit. Corn farmer's are dancing in the street but it's not helping anyone else.
