I am not real sure which section this should have gone in ... I'm guessing
As a one time unwed parent raising a child on my own, this article kind of struck a nerve with me.
I've been working since a week before I made 15, completely Independant & paid my taxes into these programs (among others) ... when I kicked the big girl's dad out, yes ... I received assistance, in the form of child care provided by the "District", so I could carry my self back to work so I wouldn't HAVE to get food stamps or medical or a TANF check ... She came off the "District" with in three months. SO, no ... I do NOT think ALL single parent homes are lazy, ill effective or worthless ... or even "take full advantage" of all the assistance that they could.
As far as my wedded status at the time being "bad" for our daughter .... well, no ... not even close!! Getting her away from the elements he was exposing us to was the BEST thing I could have done FOR her!
The most assistance we've ever received was a year or so ago when the hubby had his back sliced open ... and without that ... the foodstamps or the medical ... I truly don't want to imagine where we would be right now. I only KNOW it wouldn't be where we are!!!! He'd most than likely be in a wheel chair not ABLE to work. :( INSTEAD: He's a manager for a Nation Wide Company with awesome benefits AND some goooood pay!! :)
And divorce??? That's touchy with me as well. I have only been married once ... it's ALL I PLAN on being. But the hubby??? He's got two before me that would have never worked out but they tried anyway ... should he have been forced to stay with them, unhappy, unproductive, addicted, in a nose dive???? Nnnnnnnnooooooooo ... Talk about being unhealthy!!!
