A few weeks ago someone asked where to get good crawfish. For anyone who's got a hankering for them, I thought I'd let you know that I bought a couple pounds of boiled ones today at Southern Seafood, and got some of the biggest crawfish I've ever had.

Now, they don't do crawfish in my hometown of Hernando, MS, and I've only had them a dozen or so times in the 6 years since I moved down here. That said, I'm not a crawfish expert, but some of these mugs were giNORmous. There were a few small ones, but enough huge ones to more than compensate.

Enjoy!

I was at a function a last week and although I didn't eat any (they ran out twice), they were pretty good size. I heard they were very tasty, seasoned just right. Came from Shady Acres on hwy 49. I was going to get some for this past weekend and didn't get around to it.

Southern Seafood is good, and I've heard Difatta's has great crawfish.

Seafood Connection on 16th Ave. in Laurel has them, but you need to call ahead. (Not a tail). But, you're right, the season is running out.
I'm all about some boiled shrimp and a margarita on the patio this time of year.

Thanks! When is it though, like Feb-May? Just wondering how long it is 'till they're in season again.

We got 2 sacks last weekend from seafood connection in Laurel. They were not that big. Cooked with double season and they were yummy. I prefer the select crawfish that you can get from Lafayette. There is a dude in my community that sells them from the back of his truck (cooked) and he is from Lousianna. His are pretty good, however, I like to cook them myself.

Can vouch for Southern Seafood. The ones we got a month ago were a medium mix--some large, some small. Wish they included the fixins with their crawfish, though.

I prefer small to medium crawfish, because the bigger they are the greater the head/ tail ratio. So, with the smaller ones you get more tailmeat per pound, with big ones you're just paying for a lot of head.

As much as I love crawfish, they get a little too big this time of year for me. It's hard for me to peel them when they are that tough. Lea's (I think that's how it's spelled) has always had really good ones when we get them there... they are always seasoned really well. It's on 42 right across from Hercules.
