View Full Version : Rain Forest Car Wash doesn't do Jeeps now

Went into Rain Forest Car Wash this afternoon (Saturaday) about 5:20 PM to get an express wash on my Jeep Grand Cherokee. One of the attendant types came up and told me they won’t wash a Grand Cherokee because of an unintended acceleration problem. I thought the guy was jerking me around because they wanted to close and go home, so I asked to speak to a manager.

The manager comes over – Scott, who said he was the General Manager – and he told me the same thing. I asked him what the basis of this decision was and he said that he had an email that described the unintended acceleration problem and it was “their” decision not to wash Grand Cherokees. I told him I’d really like to see the email and he said OK. He was back in about 10 minutes with this reprint of an article from www.carwash.com (http://www.carwash.com/). I won’t quote the entire article but here’s the main paragraph.

Mississauga, Canada… 2/26/2008…
“The Feb. 25 story said a female employee had gotten into a Jeep Cherokee to advance it along the carwash’s line, when the vehicle suddenly accelerated, hitting a Nissan in front of it that was having its interior cleaned. The Nissan then hit a table which ended up hitting another car that was being cleaned.”

So how this impacts me going through the express wash (you sit in your own vehicle, with the vehicle in neutral as it is pulled along by the carwash machinery, ride through the carwash and drive out the other end) in a Grand Cherokee (different model of Jeep than a Cherokee, ZJ vs. XJ) beats me.

So if anyone knows the person who owns Rain Forest you might ask them about this.

No signage to turn away Grand Cherokees is posted by the way. And I really bet that they don’t turn away Audi’s, GM pick-ups or Buicks – three other vehicles that have had unintended acceleration issues in the past.

Interesting, I know the owner of Rainforest, he is one of the owners of Plaid rhino. I'll ask him about it next time i see him!

Unbelievable. Idiots who can't drive almost put Audi out of the US market.
Figures that it was a Canadian. I was just there en route to England, where I am now before going to France. A three stage descent to a conservative southern boy's hell! Y'all pray me out of here, please.

A friend of mine spent upward of $300 getting things flushed, fixed and cleaned there a while back, and when we went to pick his truck up there was a cigarette butt in the door handle! I don't know if this is typical of their work, but my wife and I decided that we would just start washing our own cars. It's a good thing too, I guess - she drives a Jeep.

Mr. Mulligan, at Divine Shine, washes my car and has detailed my boat. He and his workers have to be directed for specifics but do a better job than Rain Forest.

My husband is PICKY and he is a return customer so they are good. If there is something they miss, you politely tell them and they make it right. :smt023

Some boys in a church group washed mine yesterday and did a nice job. I gave them $5 to start with, but when they went back around and double-checked everything, dried it and polished the tires, I gave them another $5. My car is in shock.

the jeeps had a problem with the control system, which is why i got rid of mine( they don't use a throttle cable- it is all electronically controled). they did have a recall for that problem, but i do know that it has happened in jackson (brandon to be specific) that a gr. cherokee was getting loaded on the wash rack, and it just jumped like it was floored- when it was thrown in neutral it was fine-

the problematic jeeps are the 05-up with the 3.7L v6, not the 4.0 I6
(ie. the ones that ride like a car vs. a jeep).

They have no problem damaging your vehicle then all but say "tough, not our problem" when you confront them about it. This happened to my sister several years back. They never paid for damages, she didn't even get an "I'm sorry" from them.

I don't deal with Rain Forest. They're overpriced, the employees are underqualified, and they refuse to act responsibly when they damage vehicles.

I talked to someone who is a long-time employee of Rainforest and he said the MAIN reason they don't do jeeps anymore is because one of them went nuts at the Covington, LA store and causes $20,000 worth of damage. Since then, they just refuse to service Grand Cherokee and regular cherokees.

Since we are little well off topic. I'll add I won't be back after getting the works done. They put freaking armor-all on my leather which I ask them not to do. I had to get my wet vac out to get the water out of my mats and carpet when I got home. I called and they have yet to return my call.

Pretty incredible to work the term "liberals" into a car wash forum.

car washes resell indifferent labor... its as simple as that

i worked at red arrow when i was 17 and i assure you, I and everyone else there was indifferent.

want the job done right? do it yourself

and let it be known that i recognize the irony of defending people who work at a car wash then turning around and calling htem indifferent

the idea is... its not hard to wash a car... but you could probably get a better job done at the civitan camp because I assure you, the kids washing your car there actually care about what they are doing.

I was talking about their oil change/service department, specifically, but the apathy stuff from above applies to pretty much everyone who works there.

Respect for other's property. Taking responsibility for one's actions. Common sense. Thoroughness. Understanding that you are dealing with a customer's second largest investment. Attentiveness and instruction retention (see armor-all post).
