Since the forum is discussing its dislike for certain breeds, I thought it might be helpful to share what breeds we do like! Post away!
My personal favorite is a chocolate lab! Have fun guys!

In my opinion pound mutts are the best. My dog is half Pit Bull & half Catahoula, you couldn't find a sweeter more loyal dog.

I want a Great Dane. But I don't need a Great Dane. Nor do I have space for a Great Dane.
(but I want one)
Baring that, I'm happy with my No-Halo special. :smt118 (lab and hound mix)

I don't think there's a dog I don't love  I have a Rat Terrier and a Shepherd mix right now. Both are wonderful. The terrier is not a terror or yippy just a wonderful protector and perfect snuggler and the Shepherd mix is the biggest lap dog, all 75 pounds of him. Just a dog lover I guess. :)

Mutts seem to make the best pets for me but my favorite breed of dog is the Boston Terrier. We used to own a kennel of them and they're fun, loyal, & protective.
High energy though.

We have a black/silver Miniature Schnauzer but if we had the space, time and money I'd like a Bouvier de Flandres, a Russian Terrier or a black Giant Schnauzer.

The expression on your pitts face is so pitiful. You know he is thinking to himself, "I'm so freaking embarassed", "Please get this thing off of me".
I love Boxers. Love them. Mine was very, very hyper and high maintenance, even for a Boxer, but I loved her anyway. They stay puppies for a long time and take a while to calm down. If I could find one that's about 4-5 years old who needed a good home, I'd adopt it. Don't know if I'll ever have time for another Boxer puppy though. Sheesh.

Now we have a pair of Lab/Husky mix dogs. A stray husky-ish dog wandered up to my sister-in-law's, got knocked up by the yellow lab next door, and had TEN of these. We took two. They're pretty good dogs. Much more laid back than the Boxer.

Seems like a good place to put this...
A Dog's Purpose (from a 6-year-old).
Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old
Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife, Lisa,
and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and
they were hoping for a miracle.
I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the
family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform
the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.
As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would
be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt
as though Shane might learn something from the experience.
The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's
family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog
for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going
on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.
The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any
difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's
death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are
shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly,
piped up, "I know why."
Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next
stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.
He said, "People are born so that they can learn how to live a good
Life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?"
The six-year-old continued, "Well, dogs already know how to do that,
so they don't have to stay as long."
Live simply.
Love generously.
Care deeply.
Speak kindly.

My most favorite is the Wire Haired Fox Terrier... (my avatar)...I also like yorkies, schnoozers, crocker spaniels. I am just a doggy kind of person but I would never have a BIG dog or one of the ones that slobber all over...I couldn't handle all the mess they make. With that being said, my little peke-a-poo is my "heart" too. She is just soooo smart and special!

Remember, if a dog were the teacher you would learn things like:
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be
pure Ecstasy.
Take naps.
Stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Give kisses for no reason.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
Enjoy the treats people give you like they were your very first
treat.
Running to get something for someone and bringing it to them makes
both of you happy.
If you need to make some noise to protect someone then it's okay.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle
them gently.
ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY :bg:

I'm reading a book right now titled "Merle's Door". It is a great read for dog lovers. It is about a man who found a dog (4month old puppy) living alone in the wilderness and how their relationship progressed. It also has lots of information on canine behavior. The theme of the book is how we impose our rules and routines on pets and the effect it has on their behavior. It really is amazing the bond between dogs and humans.

she was reluctant to even come in the house when she came back... but once we sat her down to pull the fin out... she was a good dog
the fin was a good inch and a half into her neck... but only under the skin... it didnt get into any muscle or anything..
we wound up shaving the neck and disinfecting it and keeping neosporin on it... we called the vet to get antibiotics but they said she probably woudlnt need it and to call them back if the spot got very big or oozy...
it didnt... which is surprising because she had a DEAD CATFISH stuck in her neck

while any of you who've read anything i've ever written concerning dogs know i mostly just hate them, i do enjoy bassett hounds. my mom has always loved them and we had 2 when i was a baby and i remember thinking they were enormous. then we went a few years without them and then when i was in highschool we went through 2 more, one female who was run over and then a huge lazy male who was awesome who also got run over. after the last one died and all my mother's tears had been shed she decided she would never own another dog again. i remember them being very lazy and nonchalant, which is what i liked most about them. they basically had the best life anyone could ever imagine. i know the last one, bojangles, the big male one we had, never even barked. he just laid there and slobbered and walked up to people and demanded they pet him. animals who do whatever they want are the only ones i can appreciate.

The dog rules were wonderful!!
I would love to have a dog, but have two indoor cats instead. One is a brown striped tabby with a leopard-speckled tummy. He's the smart one, very vocal and self-aware. The other one was sold to my great-nephew as a Siamese, but is very fluffy and doesn't have a Siamese personality. Has gorgeous blue eyes and not much sense. Somewhat like men in my past, but that's another thread.
My favorite dogs are mutts too. They seem to be smarter and hardier. Some days I think that a few puppy kisses would just straighten everything out.

I have a Shih Tzu who doesn't know she is a dog so if you meet her please don't tell her that she is one. All the people here at Wesley Manor love her and want to pet her when I take her for her walks and she will "talk" to them which really makes their day. Most of my friends keep treats for her in their apartments and so, naturally, she loves to go visiting. I think she is real good for these older folks and I know she is good for me. I will have to get g8terfan to come over and help me post a picture of Patches.

Well he is going to be spoiled rotten. Mom is at home most of the day and has had him in the yard with her most every morning. I was out with a friend this morning yard sale shopping and she calls to see when I am coming home because she has got to leave the house and he wants somebody to play with him. I said well when I get finished eating and I go to the grocery store I will be home. He can stay by himself for a little while it wont kill him. She was sooo funny cause she didnt want to leave him all alone. It ended up I was at the house before she left to go to the Daylily show. Its a mess at my house this week. I never would have said my mom was going to spoil him before me but with this little one I think she might just do it.

I have a little Shih Tzu, Peaches who is about 7 years old and is a little stuck up and a Pug, Lily, we just got in June.
They HATE eachother.. Actually, Lily just wants to play with Peaches, but Peaches doesn't want a part of her. At ALL.
Lily is so ugly shes adorable. Makes it hard to get mad at that fat little face. My wife and I have wanted a Pug for a while and I bought her one on our anniversary.
She is very smart and is starting to listen. Peaches on the other hand is set in her ways, very stubborn!
Ah well... heres hoping one day they won't need to be divided by a baby gate..

I use to have a mini-pin. LOVED her. She went every where with me for like 3 years. Then she tragically got torn apart by a lab  RIP daisy.
We got a bassett hound to keep the mini-pin company when we moved out to the country. LOVED her. She was sooo precious. When she was a pup, she'd get excited, start running and trip over her ears. We bought a house closer to H'b and then kept her outside during the day. She somehow got impregnanted by a rotweiler (who jumped the fence while she was in heat...I caught 'em in action on the back porch). After she had her pups, a tree fell on our fence, she got out, and got ran over. RIP drooby.
The easter bunny brought my son a yellow lab...I'm thinking he was 3?? This is the best dog we ever had! He was super smart, loved to swim...and water the yard with the hose. He never ran off when we let him out, and he was very protective of my son, and very obedient. We went to California in May, and my best friend was supposedly coming by EVERY day to feed him and refill his tin-washtub of water. She said she did, but he just didn't look right when we got back from our week long stay. He died two days after we got back. RIP copper.
We now only have a cat. I'm thinking the three strike rule is in place for us and dogs. We get too attached, and they seem to die on us.

I don't know that I could pick a favorite dog breed b/c I like so many. I usually tend to like the dog more than the breed. For instance, my mother-in-law has a chihauha (I know I spelled that wrong) who I love b/c I've been around him for six years. But her mutt dog, Sassy, just has a better personality and is super sweet. Then I've been around several different breeds of big dogs (Collie, Retrievers, Weimeraner, Akita, Spaniels, etc.) that I either did or didn't really like the dog. I have no clue what kind of dog I would get if I had the chance (which I won't for a LONNNNG time).
We have four inside cats, two outside cats, and an iguana. The only cat we have that is a distinguished breed is the one we 've had the longest. Sam is a Manx which means he has absolutely no tail at all and his back legs are a little taller than his front ones. He's super agile. He's my baby. And he LOVES me. And he LOVES my 10 month old son. Earlier, he was laying in between us and had his head resting on my baby's chest while the baby was asleep. He has a lot of personality (super friendly and loves to be the center of attention) and I love the fact that he's unusual. All my cats are special and have a special personality, but Sam always stands out to everyone b/c of his look but mainly his personality. Even my mom who doesn't like cats likes Sam.

I am so sorry about your dog that was stolen. Not knowing where they are, if loved or what, is worse (IMO) than knowing they have died even if a tragic death as some have posted. At least they have closure. We have lost a 15 yr old cat when we moved and it still haunts me. As for a dog breed, anyone in the shelters.

Personally, I want and have always wanted a Chocolate Lab - however, after having a pure bred black lab that I became very attached to and had to give up - because of overseas orders, a six month quarantine (in a registered kennel) for the dog and her erratic behavior after 4 days in a kennel stateside - I have learned to do without!
Mrs DY has had two cocker spaniels (one pure bred) that both lived long lifes - but just weren't my idea of a dog. She finally decided upon a mutt! Our current mutt is part Rhodesian Ridgeback and part - something else (?). At 7 years old she is 55 pounds, loves to chase squirrels, birds and she goes totally nuts when she spots a rabbit! Although we let her out and run the fenced backyard to her heart's content, she is a house dog, takes us for walks and will not let us return from even a short shopping trip without giving us a kiss! Every morning when I return from work I get a kiss and she begs for a biscuit! If anyone walks past the front of the house, she'll let us know! We are totally convinced (especially after cockers) that certaian breds can be high strung and the best dog we have ever had is our current mutt!
So our favorite breed is - mutt!:clap:

I agree, mutts make the best dogs! We used to have one that was part chow, though, and had some of the worse chow characteristics. But generally, they're nice sturdy dogs. I'd like one that was part <strike>llasa apso</strike> and part other stuff -- no big galumpin' dogs for me.
Shih tzu, not llasa, what was I thinking?

Australian Shepherds. My family used to breed them when I was younger. They are great with kids, don't bark all the time like some breeds, are sweet as can be, beautiful, medium sized (though I've seen them in minature, which is adorable). Basically all around great dogs. As soon as Joe and I get a house with a decent yard, I'm getting one.

I love my two babies (mini schnauzer and cocker spaniel mix). But if I could choose to have any dog it would either be a Bernese Mountain Dog or a Chocolate Newfoundland.
