My aunt had an old scanner from before they made them so you can't pick up cell phone bands. That thing was hours of fun for the whole family. Unfortunately Katrina got it.

Uniden BCT-15 is good for around here. There are some handheld models that are easier to carry around if that's what you're looking for.

I've got a Pro-97 (purchased after the rebanding issue in May) that works fantastically. I went to www.radioreference.com (http://www.radioreference.com) to download the frequencies and tags and used the free Win97 to upload to the scanner. I used to have the Pro-95, but it stopped working in May b/c of the rebanding issues.

Good luck dude!! www.radioreference.com (http://www.radioreference.com) has forums to answer any questions you may have regarding any type of scanner.:-D

I agree with the recommendation of radio reference, but I am not a fan of the radio shack product line.

Radio shack is where I bought mine. The pro-97. It was preprogrammed and I just locked out the channels I didn't want to use like the marine channel and coast guard. I kept the Air-Force1 channel on there just in case old Georgie boy decides to fly overhead though. I have a heck of a time picking up Lamar County but get Hattiesburg, Petal, Highway Patrol, USM and the hospital-ambulance frequencies just fine. Dang Lamar County is getting a lot happening but I just can't get it. I have my new one that picks all that up and my old one that helps when the other is dispatching out another call. Gee, I would hate to miss anything-ha ha.
