I'm not sure exactly how everyone feels about this subject but I would just like other views on the subject. My personal opinion is that drinking and driving should hold the highest punishment possible that the state allows without and plea bargining or deals. I feel very strongly about this subject, especially when people get hurt b/c someone was drinking and driving. One case in instance is the Nick (Hulk Hogan son). Just because his father has money there is a chance that he will get a lighter sentence. Is this right considering the damage that was done to the victim? Just want some feedback on how other's feel about situations like this
Was he drunk? I thought he was just racing and reckless driving when his friend was hurt.

I agree, I think there should be a much greater penalty for drunk drivers, even if someone's not hurt b/c of it. But, I also think there should be extremely stiff penalties for child molesters and rapist, but that's not likely to happen with the liberals sitting on the benches.....

I heard a report that said he'd been drinking, then got into the race....

Queenrey,
Since the OJ trial it's obvious that if you have money, you can beat the system. Hire the best lawyers, and let them grease the wheels.

Sad, but true EH... My brother got into trouble when he was in college - had a public deffender and would up serving a couple of months for a fight that he was in... Other kids who had much more serious charges - had wealthy parents, good lawyers and all got off on technicalities or with propbation for felonies reduced to misdemenaors..
queenrey, I agree that they should be charged to the fullest extent of the law and that they should not get off easy because of who they are or who there daddy is... in another case though, the Mayor's son in the town where I grew up was always out drinking and driving and the cops had an unwritten rule to just take him and his car home... sad...

My brother got into big trouble when he was a senior in high school. My parents spent money on a big time lawyer and he ended up only have to serve 3 months in jail and 2 years probation. For what he did that was a slap on the wrist!! He didnt learn his lesson because of his light sentence and ended up messing up again but it was something very minor. My parents didnt fork out money this time and he ended up at the county farm for 2 years & 3 years probation.

I'm not sure of technicalities, but both he and the passenger had been drinking.

I for one have no sympathy for those driving drunk. If you can't or don't want to do the time, don't do the crime! Stay you a** at home or have a DD! Pure, plain and simple!
Those people should have the opportunity to go have to help get an innocent victim out of a fatal wreck or go tell relatives of their demise. It is heart-breaking for sure. It will nag at you for a looooong time!
Judges have to be held accountable for letting these people go. It is NOT up to L.E. to do anything but arrest the drunks. It is the dang judges who let them off with a slap on the wrist. Attorneys representing them should also be held responsible if they get them off for a "technical" error. There is one particular attorney on the coast I would like to hang by his ........well you get the idea...he is one of the worse ones I have seen trying to get drunks charges dismissed. IMO he should have been disbarred alot time ago because of all his DUI's.

I can't resist a thread like this, either.
As I have mentioned several times, my two baby cousins were killed by a drunk driver (http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=15846&format=print). (Hence the signature at the bottom of every post I make). Jake was 4 (he would have turned 5 two days later) and Lauren was 6 months old (she was one month older than my son).
If you click the link and read more about what happened. It was terrible and something we will never completely heal from. I try to tell their story whenever I get the chance. I hope that hopefully it will prevent at least one person from getting behind the wheel drunk...

The young Marine just back from Iraq who was critically injured in the August 26 car crash that involved wrestler Hulk Hogan's son Nick will require lifelong care, according to court documents.
John Graziano's mother, Debra Graziano, has legally petitioned a Florida court to permit her to assume guardianship of the 22-year-old, who remains in Bayfront Medical Center, the St. Petersburg Times reports.
Citing court papers, the paper reports that the most Graziano can hope for is to open and shut his eyes periodically. He was a passenger in 17-year-old Nick Bollea's car when it careened off the road and struck a 25-ft.-tall palm tree in downtown Clearwater, Fla., police said.
The papers also state that Graziano was not wearing a seat belt. Police continue to investigate the accident, and no charges have been filed.
Friend Described as Comatose
A nurse hired by the court filed a report on Sept. 19 that described Graziano as comatose and on life support, and also said he may have suffered a seizure, says the Times.
Debra Graziano – who is separated from John's father, Edward Graziano – was given emergency temporary guardianship on Sept. 27, permitting her to seek military benefits on behalf of her son.
Edward Graziano, meanwhile, is contesting her request and seeks to have an independent guardian for John, says his lawyer, Steven Hearn.

Those that know me are welcome to give me a call if they need a ride. I never drink and would be glad to give someone a ride instead of them trying to drive themselves.

Nick is some piece of work, but of course the product of his up bringing. We get really sick of the "poor little me" cry baby Nick. (I live in the Tampa area and it is all we see/hear).
Anyone interested in further information can click here. It has all the local coverage.

If there is a link for his phone calls to his mom and hulk himself, been sure and listen to them. This kid accepts NO responsibility for what he did and the entire family thinks it is Johns fault. Yes he was not wearing a seat belt and yes he knew Nick like to street race, but Nick was at fault in this one. BTW, Hulk bought the beer his son and the others were drinking.
It seems that most laws do not protect the victim now days.
