Do they still run regularly? There is going to be a hellacious motorbike wreck on the service road exit in front of Dairy Queen if they don't get the pea gravel removed from the intersection .... its been there for almost 2 weeks, and my bike almost got away from me in it last week.

You know...now that you ask...I ain't seen a street sweeper in Hburg in years! Does not mean they don't exist. Keep an eye on the pea gravel. I got a good friend who has an office building near Kamper Park on Hardy Street. At the corner of 19th and Hardy there was an old piece of carpet that someone had evidently torn out of a house or something and dropped there off a truck - in the street at that intersection. We watched it to see how long it would stay - stayed almost 90 days before the City picked it up!

Rocker IF they are running regularly I would like to know where at...it has been months since I last seen a sweeper in my neighborhood. Give the action line a call and make a complaint...545-4500...Make sure you get the name of the person who you talk to...you will probably have to make yet another complaint....seems alot of the complaints go by deaf ears or get lost! (Imagine that!) I have made the same complaint now for a year and NOTHING has been done. I am about fed up with it...fixing to bend the mayors ear! :)

IF you then have to complain to one of the supervisors with the city you can name names. IMO, IF these folks don't want to do their jobs they need to be shoved out the dang front door!!!

I can tell you some stories about the action line...makes my blood boil to think about it.

I've seen the street sweeper on occaisions, usually on the way to work at about 5:30 in the morning. I believe they work during the night when there is less traffic.

As a matter of fact, most of the time's that I see it, it is by Mt.Carmel and the mayors house.

Per Bennie Sellers at tonites city council meeting, the city has three sweepers...ONLY 1 works. The other two have been out of commission for a good while now and they can't seem to get them fixed.

I also found it interesting that the city has a couple of new International trucks (08 models) and two of them are out of commission now for a month or maybe a little longer. When Delgado asked "WHY" they had not been fixed, Sellers said the company did not have parts and could not get them from the factory.

I don't know about them but IF I owned a "new" vehicle and it was broke and the company couldn't get parts for it, they dang sure would have the sucker back...once the warranty is up rest assured they will not fix it then...then the city is stuck yet once again.

I guess I'll waste my lunch hour one day and sweep it up myself. Lots of bikes use that intersection. Pea gravel is the most dangerous thing out there besides cars for motorcyclists. If you see some idiot with a broom and sweeping gravel on the side of 49 soon ... that'll be me :) Honk for me! lol

Since it's a highway, I think MDOT is responsible for keeping it clear.

Oh, I'm not a showboater ... I was doing all of 15 mph..... the front wheel just slides out from you when you are in the slightest turn and there is gravel.

Well I guess the only street sweeper that was working is broke now. It blew a hydraulic fluid all over east hardy, river ave area almost causing a bunch of wrecks but luckily H.F.D. was on the scene quickly and got the situation resolved.

The operator of the street sweeper said he could not figure out why it was not working after he drove it all the way back to the shop leaking fluid!!!!! Seems like that trail of fluid behind you would be a dead give away especially when people driving by are screaming THERE IS SOMETHING SLICK ALL OVER THE ROAD BEHIND YOU

. . . . . . Yeah it sure is!!!
It's like driving through a pile of ball bearings. :(

The intersection across from Hercules, where you turn to go to Glendale is another one ya gotta watch. ;)

Just a guess, Ya think those parts for the sweepers and trucks might be on the same purchase order for the sewage lagoon aerators!!!:smt009

The Coyote in the road runner cartoon has better purchasing department organization (no inference meant W.B.)

Call ACME today!!! Get what you need!
And even though I haven't driven a bike in over 20 years, the one time I did lay it down was in a small patch of gravel at an intersection. Doesn't take much to lose that front wheel. Y'all be careful out there.
