The last time I went in there I was spoken to....um...inappropriately. Best way I can describe it. The place seemed to draw an undesirable crowd for some reason.

 HaHa a few years ago I was going out for drinks with the girls and we stopped there to fill up. There were some guys outside the store selling their rap cd's for like $5. I guess you could say I've got some "ass"ets that they were attracted to from behind - and they begged me to appear in their music video. If only they knew that just because you've got the tools doesn't mean you know how to use them - I can't shake it for the life of me! I had to give them a fake number to get them to leave me alone!!!!

I'm sure they wanted you for a video, and I'm pretty sure it probably could have some music in it. However, I don't think most people would call it a music video :)

The manager of one of the Jr Food's told me yesterday that they had bought that store. I like doing Business with JFM but they aren't the greatest on keeping their stores clean and safe. Sure would beat that drug den in that old store.

I won't be stopping in there when they reopen either. I just don't feel that particular corner is a safe location. There were always people lurking on the sides of the store and that is not a safe feeling for ladies like me. It always made me feel like they needed a security guard there. Someone was always running some type of business off the one side of that store, be it selling jewelry out of the trunk, car detailing or c.d.s. Just wasn't like a real business parking lot ought to be.

I pulled someone over in their parking lot one time and the owner or manager or somebody comes strolling out with a big handgun holstered to his hip and started a conversation with me when I was done. He kinda startled me at first, and he almost got drawn down on, but I saw his shirt and everything identifying that he worked at the store. From that point on I've never walked into that store unarmed. I realized that night what a bunch of thugs there were hanging around in that parking lot and general area.

i'll be ok if it is a texaco like the other jr. food marts-

but i agree- it needs to come down and start anew. if it's new the rats won't be attracted.

it's turning bad across the street at the minit mart i've noticed-

eventually the rats are going to come back... it all depends on who they hire to run the place too...

Does it really matter what is there and who runs it? Isn't the problem really from the surrounding apartments and housing? If thugs live around there, then the thugs will still be there, regardless of the name on the sign.

That's got something to do with it but a lot has to do with how much crap the manager/owner will let go on...

it was decent at the Exxon across the street... but look where it's at... at least it's somewhat clean...

but whatever you build on 4th street, particularly in that particular area, no matter how nice it looks is destined for wreck and ruin within a couple of years...

what that new shell needs is a manager with an iron fist... and even they wear down....

That's the problem anywhere. The people have to stand up and demand respect and some level of morol behavior. Many times people want to blast the cops for not keeping areas safe but that responsiblity rest on the shouders of the people as much as it does on the cops. We have allowed these types of negative activities to continue until they reach a point of normalcy. The only way to prevent the further decline is to stop giving ground to thugs and corruption. A perfect example is when I worked on East Hardy St. we would see kids 8-12 years old walking the streets at 1-3 AM. Only concerned parents will make a change in that not strecthed thin cops.

I completely agree that it's up to parents. I worked for 5 years in an "underprivileged" elementary school, and was providing therapy and social services for these very needy children, and it was impossible to get hold of parents and if you were able to contact them, you always were made to feel like your call or visit was an inconvenience. It's a shame when a stranger/teacher/therapist wants more for a child than his/her own parent. Heartbreaking--but made me work even harder to make a difference in their lives.

Well, the place was a dump...but i kind of miss it. Where else can i go for the "coldest beer allowed by law". They also sold individual cigarettes out of the pack... which seems very sanitary. As sketchy as the place seemed, the people that worked there were nicer than most gas station employees.

It sucks the Jr Food is taking over though. Their cigarette prices are ridiculous.

Part of the problem at the Ghetto Shell was the scurvy collection of low-life scum wandering out from Eagle's Nest Apartments, right behind there.

I live in Mark VI, which is just up the street from there, but fortunately for us, this complex is literally full of Cops and Soldiers, so wandering thugggz don't get much of a welcome if they make their way in here.

I've run a couple of "independent publication distributors" off my doorstep in the last few years, but I think my apartment has gotten a reputation for being inhabited by one mean-spirited, unfriendly SOB, because I haven't seen one of those little bastards in a while.

My favorites are the ones who mechanically repeat the sales pitch while craning their necks to see around you and "case" your home for valuables. A good phrase to use at that point is: "HEY, YOU! WTF YOU LOOKING AT, HUH? YOU WANNA ROB MY PLACE OR SOMETHING, HUH? GTF OFF MY DOORSTEP BEFORE I BEAT YOUR GD ASS." Make sure to use your "outdoor voice", something along the lines of the one R. Lee Ermey used as Senior Drill instructor Gunnery Sgt. Hartman in "Full Metal Jacket." I learned how to use that vocal style at Ft. Knox, kentucky, and it definitely comes in handy for running off dirtbags and lowlifes. Most of them don't seem to know what to think when a regular person stands up to them; it's like their world just turns upside down, because the laws of Political "Correctness" dictate that regular people must bow down to our progressive crackhead overlords and beg forgiveness for millions of years of white capitalist oppression.

Dang.....I thought the thread would go on forever without anyone seeing the obvious...
I got to know the guy running the place pretty well, he's a real decent fella', and did what he could to keep the place a scum-free as possible. Yep, he carried a piece (a damned nice Kimber .45 with a trigger job), but given the circumstances, what reasonable person wouldn't? He didn't own the store, but rented it to run a business out of.
Flat-out, the neighborhood just sucks. The idea that a sparkly, shiny new store will be any different is just......err.......stupid.
What they DO need is new fuel pumps/tanks, since most of them weren't operating for quite a while befor the place closed. Again, not the fault of the dude running the place, but of the owners of the property.
It always struck me as kinda' odd that the store across the road had such a strong police presence, while the store in question never seemed to have a cop in sight.

The store across the street hires a security person. That was the problem with the old Shell store, they didn't have any security and obviously didn't care what sort of trashy people loitered around outside and hassled people going in and out.

Oh and I know for sure Walmart does not sell on Sunday because I tried unless they changed that. Don't have to worry about any of that anymore since I live in another state.
