In Hattiesburg it was hard to find her behind all those trailers and Iknow there must be a thread already but too many to go through. We ate there the other night for the first time and we have lived here 38 years. it was great but I had to have steak it was wonderful too I am a Weight watcher but next time I will have ribs. You know you can print out the health records of all restaurants in Hattiesburg now. And last time I got one Popeyes in cloverleaf got a bad report. Letha's was a b b thats good. but anyway we enjoyed it. we will go back.

Heard awhile ago from someone that use to work at Chilis and they didn't get fired, they left because of what happens in the kitchen. if you want to know message me I will tell you. I guess it may happen in more places then we like to know too. Raina Snow

Leatha's is amazing. I would eat there if they were an F (OK, maybe not, but still).

Letha's, when it was in Foxworth, carried its meat across the road from the smokehouse to the dining area (house) in a wheelbarrow with an overused banana box shielding the meat from the rust. Did not stop people from flying in from other countries to eat there. The flies ate as much as the patrons did, and the owner of Tabasco drove from Louisiana to partake in the ribs. Many folks wiped thier hands on the towel/curtains and you still soaked the rolls in the sauce.

Letha's is special. Don't tell anyone.

I agree. My father, step-mother, and I drove from McComb when I was about 11 to get us some. I'll never forget Applehead or the food. That's the way things should be done 'round here.

I'd go on a B rating in a heartbeat. Useally simple mistakes that have nothing to do with the cleanliness of the food.

I'm gonna drive 525 miles from Greenville, SC to get some. I just love double entendre's :kekeke:

If we knew what went on in most restaurant kitchens none of us would ever eat out! What I don't know won't hurt me.

I have heard, however, that the Corn Dog 7 in the mall in Laurel is overrun by roaches. I mean, bad. Yet, they passed their health inspection. Seems like just about everyone always passes those things.

I was there when they got the B rating. It was because the uncooked meat was sitting too close to something (I can't remember what).

Amen!! My grandmother and Ms. Letha were childhood friends. Her family sharecropped my great-grandfathers land or something. I have many fond memory of Ms. Letha and my grandmother. She regularly brought plates to my Uncle and grandmother as they got a little older. I smile even now thinking about those days. I was so saddened when she closed that little house in Foxworth and moved West. I haven't been to eat there since. Figured it just wouldn't be the same - you know? I have, however, eaten many times since at her grandson's place in Foxworth. Same food - same strange ambiance.

Health inspection report for full service restaurants in Hattiesburg (http://www.msdh.state.ms.us/food/FacilityListing.aspx?s_FacilityTypesID=1&s_FacilityCity=hattiesburg).

Link to health inspection report (http://www.msdh.state.ms.us/food/default.aspx)page where you can find info state wide by location, type of service etc.

Only place I can't find is Letha's. Do they go by another name?

Found Letha's. Guess I spelled it wrong? Anyhow, they got a B because their food was not properly separated and protected and they didn't have their last inspection posted.

raina snow, thank you for that great post! Don't let the critics on here get you down! You just post away, anyway you feel like it! That jab at you was uncalled for and was in very poor taste and I just consider the source. :smt023

I love Letha's! Ms. Letha and her family do a fantastic job and are wonderful people! I am so glad that they choose to do business in the Burg! We are very fortunate to have them. I wish that I could have known them sooner - when Applehead was still with us... Letha's is a rare treat and I hope that they never change!

Personally.....I like Lethas but it's not the best ribs I've ever eaten (probably top 3-5). Just my personal preference.

I don't get the fuss made over Letha's. It is okay, but I've had much better bbq at many spots throughout the state. Goldie's in Vicksburg is the best bbq I've had, including what I got at famous spots in Kansas City and Memphis.

My personal tastes deemed Corky's as the best ribs. I love their sauce.

I like my ribs wet. Anyone can smoke them. But it's getting that sauce that makes the MMMMM.

I gotta say, that the sugar rub ribs at Chili's are pretty damned good, too.

Letha's is the best. When I was younger my family used to eat there at least 2-month as a special treat. My brothers & I went to high school with her kids...Applehead (Larry) was a trip. He always had a big smile on his face & loved to sing.

I have eaten there several times since they moved to Hattiesburg, but it has been a long while. I think it is getting about that time again...got a craving for it just talking about it.

I have always heard that hole-in-the-wall places are the best ones to eat at. That is why when hubby & I are on vacation or a road trip we like tring out the little hometown resturants to eat at, instead of the chains that you can eat at anytime.

I don't think commenting on someone's post is "verbally abusing" them. We all as Americans need to develop thicker skin. That literally WAS a very difficult post to read. Why can he not say that?

Many of the problems we have today is because people would rather excuse bad behavior so they're not "confronting" anyone. Had my teachers in junior high or high school said "it's okay...you can spell that word however you want" or "it's okay, you don't need to use proper grammar, I know what you're trying to say without it" then I wouldn't have learned how to speak or write properly. Telling someone that their post is hard to read isn't a character attack. It's a signal that they may have an area where they could improve.

By the way, I'm really craving Letha's now...

I have never eaten at leatha's, not sure why. I've always heard great things about it though. Supposedly Lee Corso, from ESPN, eats there every time he comes to Hattiesburg to cover USM football.
