Authorities say an unidentified man was wounded by gunfire at the 200 Block of Kimble Avenue in Hattiesburg around 2:30 p.m.; his condition is unknown.

What kind of shape is the victim in? Critical wound, or just flesh wound? I hope that it is not too serious and my thoughts and prayers are with the victim and his family regardless of the circumstances... My thoughts and prayers are also with the officers as they try to catch the suspects. I hope that no one else is shot over this incident.

Actually, you are failing to factor in the types of crimes commited and subsequent sentence received. You should also factor in recidivism and the fact that subsequent offenders normally get prison time.
