Heard this on the news last night and this morning but it's not on the WDAM website but it is in the paper today................

Hattiesburg police resonded to reports of gunshots fired Wednesday night at the Jaycee Memorial Park around 9:45 p.m. They found nothing suspiccious and didn't complete a police report.

The news said that youth all stars were practicing on the field.

I was visiting with my neighbor yesterday afternoon about 5:30. We were sitting out on her front porch, (we both live on n 22nd ave just 3 blocks from kimball where someone was killed earlier in the week). We had been sitting there just a minute when we heard 3 gunshots coming from 3 different directions. 4 police cars showed up within minutes (thanks HPD). 2 officers drove up and asked us if we had heard anything. We told them what we heard. They stayed in the area for about 20 mins.
I'm assuning they didn't find anyone.

it sounds like Bolton needs to pull out the OVERTIME checkbook and saturate that area for a couple of weeks and get rid of the rif-raf/thugs.

YEA - Jaycee fields are like 3 blocks from last week's murder. I don't know what's going on... Part of it is that it is summer and there are LOTS of high school kids living in that area.

I heard 3 loud noises a couple of seconds apart last night around the same time - but it must have been closer to you than me because I didn't think they were gunshots, just though they resembled shots vaguely. Are you sure that's what they are? I'm closer to 19th.

This town is becoming more and more violent every day it seems. I remember playing there as a young boy and I really feel so sorry for the kids and parents. Dixie Youth was a time to get together with your friends and have fun. I feel like this is lost to some degree. Anyone who would do this is sick beyond help. We need to send a message that this won't be tolerated at ALL.

That would be impossible in that area.

With a couple of platoons' worth of 1114 gun trucks and enough ammo, it would become possible, even very probable!:-D

Or maybe a few H/K teams in well-camouflaged hides, who could put crosshairs on the worst offenders after careful observation and COIN intelligence-gathering. I like this option better.

Combatting gangs is as simple as using the proper tactics, which will make gang-banging such a losing proposition that even the stupid ones will eventually give it up or be excised from society.

This probably sounds rather severe, but look at it in context: the thugs, drug dealers and gangstas care very little about their own lives, and care even LESS for yours. Why should WE bend over backwards to "understand" them, or waste time with "compassionate rehabilitative efforts" when they will do nothing except laugh at us for this colossal waste of time and taxpayer dollars, and then eagerly seek the next opportunity to kill and rob us and our loved ones anyway?

It's like people today WANT to be victims. I just don't get it.

My friend who lives a couple of blocks from the J.C. Park heard the gunshots. She has to take care of her elderly Father & it scared her to death! The area where she & I grew up (Dixie Avenue & Wedgewood Dr.) used to be a safe middle class neighborhood. Now it is the ghetto & the barrio rife with drug thugs & gang bangers!:ohnoes:

Dixie Youth baseball is in a downward spiral. Not the same program as years past. Kid in my grandsons league, called the umpire a SOB, flipped off the crowd as he was ejected in the last game of the season. He is practicing for all stars as we speak. Email to head of DY in Texas, I was told it was up to the local program. Seems they are only interested in the franchise money. Sad.

Yep, that's all that matters these days. Money. Money and greed is and will always be the root of all evil.
