So who here would be interested in a little fun/friendly competition that could result in loosing a few pounds along the way? Results always seems to be better when you've got the support of others who have the desire to reach the same goals as you do. So who wants to loose a few?

Going to let this thread run until after Fourth and if anyone is interested then we'll officially kick it off, make the rules, all that good stuff.

You can PM me if you are interested but don't want to post in the thread.

This would be an excellent social group. Maybe make a series of challenges and let the members acknowledge when they meet the challenges in the group. That way, new members that come in late wouldn't feel left out.

JMC, count me in! I have been working on losing weight since February and am down almost 40 pounds, but still have 50 more to go. I have good weeks and bad weeks, but am not giving up until I reach my goal weight and then I will have to work on staying at my goal weight... I don't do well with "competition" with others because I have such a hard time losing weight, but would definitley be up for motivation and working towards the same goal with others!

Count me in. I want to get rid of 10lbs. I have to work out regularly to keep my weight under control. As most of ya'll know, I loves to eat, so I have to be aware of my weight all the time. It's either exist on very little food and not have to work out so much, or eat up and work as much of it off as possible. I'm tall, so I can get away with a little excess weight, but I have to stay on top of it. We need to do a Biggest Loser type thing.

I'm down about 35 pounds since last September so I got a head start. I had put the weight on after some back surgery and finally got tired of carrying it. I'll likely end up dropping another five pounds or so but not too much more. I would enjoy the group for support and accountability though.

I also have a decent knowledge of working out and weight loss and would be glad to answer any questions or offer any advice that I could. I'd also like people to hold me to my training since I plan on doing some longer races starting in August.

I am not trying to lose weight right now but I am watching how much I gain. My goal was to only gain 25-30 lbs this pregnancy compared to the 60 I gained with my 1st child. I did weight watchers in 2005 and lost 80 lbs so I plan on doing that again once the baby is born.

I'm in - I don't know how we'd hold each other accountable for how much is lost other than taking their word on it - or taking pictures of our weight on the scale every week, but I don't want everyone knowing how much I weight (it's a girl thing)..lol!

But, I agree the motiviation is a good thing - but I need some kind of competition to get me really motivated!

Losing 5 pounds of non-water weight is extremely hard. That is one massive number of calorie deficit.

I know what I typically weigh when I've been pleased with how I look (if there really has been such a time). For me, it's knowing what I'm capable of, and knowing I'm not at that point right now. I don't think I'm fat by any means, but I'd like to trim down and tone up a tad bit more. And yeah, getting rid of these 5? HARD. I hear about people losing 15 and 20 and 40 pounds all the time.... MF'er, why can't i just get rid of 5!?!?!??! ha

I wouldnt mind joining. I do really ok eating its the workouts and staying motivated that get me.

How are you measuring your body fat? Most methods won't provide you with a consistent, accurate result. If you've been exercising and watching your diet, it's highly unlikely you've lost weight but gained body fat.

The way your clothes fit is one of the best indicators of positive, or negative, changes. I wouldn't be discouraged after one month. Keep at it and good things will happen. :smt023

For anyone counting calories...

http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm

I like this calorie calculator. You can click a zig zag method where some days you get more calories than others, which is nice for weekends. Very simple to do...especially using fitday or thedailyplate.

It's a lot easier to do than it seems...I think counting calories has a bad stigma attached to it because people always use that to scare people into bizarre weight loss methods.

Counting calories is pretty much like doing WW...

Yeah, I posted that link along with www.thedailyplate.com (http://www.thedailyplate.com). There are pros and cons to each.

I like fitday the best BUT....thedailyplate has a lot of store items already in the database...so if you are crunched for time, you don't have to enter any new grocery item in. Chances are it's in there already.

Maybe I choose wonky brands...hehe

Plus I want it exactly right. I can't live with clicking on "whole wheat bread"...I have to have it with all the exact cals/nutrients in my favorite brand. See, that's how I roll CB...I'm all OCD and stuff. hehe

I do prefer fitday as well though...just bc it doesn't have all the ads and stuff. I am a sicko too who likes to enter in my certain brands and particulars if it's not in their database.

I'm glad to hear someone else uses it...I think it's a really easy way to do things...very simple and straightforward. And FREE. The only way I lose is to cut calories. Exercise makes it all look better, but cutting calories is the key for me. It doesn't even matter if it's carbs, protein, snickers bars. lol I mean, of course, that matters, but it doesn't matter as far as me LOSING.

Good luck!

Cubby- no no no!!! Here's a trick, when I feel weak and want something unhealthy- look at the calories before you unwrap it (or buy it). That usually helps me change my mind.

I got in an hour of cardio (forgot my ipod at home, so it was torture!!!) and some abs. Will do another 30-45 minutes of walking/jogging intervals when I get off of work.

I got mine at walmart actually. I think they are panasonic. They go in the ear, and also have a small little piece that wraps around the back of your ear. These are the ONLY ones I've found that actually stay in my ears!! haha I can't even keep ear buds in when I'm sitting still, much less sweating and bouncing around.

Back from Feb-May I was eating breakfast at Hardee's every morning. Eating from either Taco Bell, Zaxby's, Arby's, Chick-Fil-A, Backyard Burger or Subway for Lunch every day. And at least 3 nights a week I was eating out somewhere. I was spending at least $12 a day on food and lunch alone, sometimes as much ast $18 ( in a 2 week work period between pay days thats $120-$180 in food, not counting eating out at nights ).

I was up to 272 lbs and my 40 inch waist work pants were getting snug. I also had 2 pair of jeans that I barely fit into and were uncomfortable.

For the last 6 weeks I have been eating a pack of pop tarts for breakfast, eating a lean cuisine panini, flat bread, or one of their other meals ( I like about 4 of them ), with a small back of chips, an apple, and one of those lipton citrus flavored sweet tea's for lunch at work. This costs me a total of between $60-$70 at wal-mart for everything for a 2 week period. So I have saved $60-$120 each 2 weeks alone, and I am currently down to 258 pounds. My size 40 work pants are Loose, and my size 38 jeans that I barely fit into I can now wear ( they are just a tad snug ). This is with no working out at all, just a change away from fast food.

Today, I've been really hungry all day. I'm really hungry now, but I think some of it's psychological. I REALLY want a sonic burger combo with sonic sized chili cheese fries and a drink. Man, that's KILLING me right now. I can't get it out of my head.

I've eaten turkey and tomato sandwich for breakfast, lasagna (WW frozen) with a salad and a cut up squash, two containers of sugar free jello, a bowl of corn flakes with almost no milk and two pieces of toast with peanut butter.

I'm struggling with my head right now. Damn. I hate this.

Sonic chili cheese fries are da'bomb! Drop some jalapenos on there and grab a big ole cherry limeade and I'm there!

Get up at 4:30. I did it for years. It sucks, and it's hard... but when you really get motivated, you do what you gotta do.

Fit in a 20 minute walk at lunch... another 20 minutes when you get home. Wake up at 5:00 (only 30 min sooner) and get in 20 then. You do that, and you've done an hour of workout in your day. If you watch tv at night to unwind, get on the floor! Do pushups during commercials, ab work.

I'm of the firm belief that there are no excuses. It CAN be fit in in a day. You (generic "you") just have to want it.

I'm in, I Have a wedding to get ready for, Not so much the wedding, People have seen me in a dress before, but We're going to Bora Bora for the honeymoon, so I want pictures, but not of me in a bathing suit LOL! Anyone going to the Petal Y? I need motivation, I love working out and become an addict once I get started, it's just so easy NOT to go. Anyhow, if anyone is a member of the petal Y, let me know, I need a buddy.

For those who are looking for a way to ease back into exercise, MSN had this article (http://health.msn.com/fitness/articlepage.aspx?cp-documentid=100210249&GT1=31036) on walking workouts this morning. At the end of the article, they include a link to some stretching exercises.

I work from 8-6pm. I bring my workout stuff with me and go right after work. It certainly is not what I want to do some days, but hey that's life. If you want something bad enough you will find a way.

I worked out yesterday (just cardio) during lunch and did a daily abs routine in the evening.

Headed to the gym at lunch today to do cardio and the circuit (is that really how to spell that?).

I like the Wisteria room @ the Payne center.

I'm telling myself that once I get back into daily school, then I'll work out every day. Right now, it's just so hard to get motivated from the house.

However, I did ride my bike to work the other day. That was nice.
