I found a new place to shop when I come to see the daughter in Ohio. The place is called Ikia and I really like the place. They have all kinds of stuff but particularly stuff for the home and organizational stuff. They carried all sorts of stuff to organize rooms and closets with along with many other things! They had rows of shelves that reminded me of being in Lowe's but also had dishes and furniture and all sorts of stuff. The place was so big we only saw a little of it as we didn't have much time. I ended up buying several things including a step stool that I have been looking for for 6 months and couldn't find. Very reasonable. If you pass one somewhere and have time, the store is worth a look see.

I have looked online but I like to see things in person before I buy. They do have good prices on their stuff though.

My son and his wife have a breakfast room set from there. Pretty nice.

I have visited Ikea and have purchased things from them as well. Be careful when purchasing the shelving and furniture.. See it before hand if you can. A lot of their stuff is CHEAP and it really shows. They do have nice things but looks can be deceiving on their website. I went to the store to see something I found online and it was a good thing I saw it in person before I DIDNT buy it..

That sounds like a great place to shop. maybe one day someone will open a lkia store here;. as I always say,the more good stores that come to the Burg, the better the Burg gets.

I recall at one time ikea would not ship to Mississippi. We bought some stuff from the one in Frisco, Tx.

I could spend hours ( and have, much to my husband's chagrin ) in an Ikea. The streamlines, clean look of their furniture appeals to me but the quality isn't always the best. It's ok to order small, decorative items and such but I would never order furniture. It costs and arm and a leg in shipping and handling and you can't test the quality first. We have several pieces that we bought in VA and are quite happy with them.
While I shop, the male part of our family enjoys the Ikea cafeteria. When they opened their newest store in MA, they sold hot dogs for 50 cents. I think the cafeteria was more packed than the store :-D

50 cent hot dogs?! That's quite a deal. I heard they have decent bedroom furniture... am I mistaking? Or are you talking about other types of furniture not being of high quality?

Any kind could be iffy. We have several hutches , buffets and book shelves and are very happy with them. There were other shelves, cases, kitchens etc. though that I would not have considered. It's like any other furniture store, some hits, some misses. I just like their style. None of that heavy, ornate, dark wooden stuff. I like my house bright and airy.

The one I went to is up here in Cinci where my daughter lives. The store is so big that I told my daughter that I hope they don't have a fire, because I'll never find the exit. Some of their stuff did look better that other, but I was amazed at the reasonable everyday stuff they have. I saw several things that I would like to have, especially when it comes to organizing. I want to get the eldest grandster a table that they had with spaces underneath for storage. He can do his lego stuff there and put it away when he finishes. It's not top of the line stuff, but look nicer than the Walmart stuff, especially for the price. They did have a "playroom" that was attended where you could check in your children while you shopped...as long as they were potty trained. Since the twins weren't, that wouldn't work for us, but they did have a play area for them where one person could stay with them while they played with trains, ect...

I love Ikea! The store in Frisco was so large, you got a map when you entered. I love-love-love Ikea!

I know that most of their stuff works for people on budgets and college students just starting out. My bed that I just got came from Ikea, I think. Its a platform bed that can hold a full size or a queen mattress, which is a huge improvement over my smaller than a twin bed that I was sleeping on .
