I would like to have one for times like this a generator can burn some gas...

My generator burns about 8-10 gallons over 24 hours. I've got enough fuel to run me about 6-7 days. I usually turn it off at night so I don't quite burn that much...maybe 6 a day.

You leave it running all day? I see then, we only use ours when absolutely necessary. I go in Rambo survival mode.:-D

Yeah...I leave it on during the heat and run my fridge, freezer, tv and winder' unit. At night though I have a rechargeable 7 inch digital tv so I plug the antenna into it and it last about 2 hours if I need to watch the news or anything. I gotta' let the gen rest a little while lol....:-D

I think the Governor should be able to issue an executive order limiting the amount of gas you can purchase under a state of emergency.
It would prevent the petro-whorders from unnecessarily affecting supply in a time of great need. Most of these morons will do nothing more than run a damn generator all week so they don't go without AC and NASCAR.

after 30 days gas starts to break down. Just put it in your vehicle before then and you'll be fine....if you plan on keepin' it over a month add stabilizer to it.

Exactly. Besides, the gas companies bottom line profit is less than many businesses. It's true that the gas company makes 8% and the government makes 15%/ It's the speculators that determine the price of a barrel of oil

The thing is there should be no need for an executive order if more people acted in good faith and were considerate of those who are in greater need than themselves. I want hospitals, nursing homes, elderly and sick people to have first access to resources. If I go a week without power or even something cold to drink I am healthy and will survive. I mean really, think about in a severe gas shortage, what is more important, having enough fuel for fire trucks, ambulances, police cars, power co trucks, etc, or Joe Blow being able to keep his generator gassed up so he won't get to hot?

I see your point. However, emergency vehicles should have their own personal supply in cases like this. Heck, even large companies in the area had their own gas tanks during Katrina.
Also, if somehow there wasn't enough gas in the area and there was a danger of gas running out for emergency responders and other people who truly need it the government would bring gas from other cities to support.

I didn't say anything about price- I said SUPPLY. It's the morons with 50 gallon drums filling the beds of their trucks that causes us to run out during an emergency, not the speculators.
Try toughing it out for a few days without the AC and TV and generators so we can all have enough fuel to get to work, care for our neighbors, and get the community back on track.

My question is how does gas, that has already been paid for and is in the pumps at the gas station, go up like it does without purchasing fresh gas from the suppliers? It's called speculation and it doesn't matter if Joe Blow shows up with a 55 gallon drum are not, speculators are going to use whatever function going on in the world to justify calling for higher prices.

Speaking of 55 gallon drums, I wouldn't use one of those unless you also have a pump. Sort of hard to pour out of one of those. I bought my parents some plastic 5 gallon cans.....I think 6 of them. Those can easily be picked up and poured in a tank and anything leftover can be poured in the lawnmower or in the car's gas tank. Of course, finding a gas can now may be a hard thing to find. But finding a hand pump might also be a hard thing to find, too.

oil futures are down a buck or two on the nymex right now...
it has pretty much slowly and steadily been inching downward for several weeks now
rise in prices in the past couple days is gas stations... not the cost of the fuel

I was going by this:

Oil prices rose above $119 a barrel Thursday on fears that Tropical Storm Gustav could strengthen on its way toward crude and natural gas rigs in the Gulf of Mexico and refineries in the Gulf area.

fwiw, ive been watching the nymex pretty much every day for a while now because now that im living in purvis... gas prices directly affects my pocket book
the prices of both crude and brent crude has been fluctuating a few bucks a day but it almost always closes down... if not down then within a dollar of the previous days closing price.

I've got three drums full. I've got 3 freezers and 4 refrigerators to keep running and if power is out for two weeks and gas is being rationed as before (remember, no gas without electricity), well, I've got mine and don't have to hold your unpreparred asses up while your waiting in line.

I wouldn't call it a police power, I would call it a state power. The Founders didn't invision the 10th Amendment to be trumped on so many issues and sure as hell didn't intend for it to be used to expand the role of government in our lives. Remember, John Locke was a huge and guiding influence in their decision making, not so much Thomas Hobbes.

There's plenty of gas out there, one of the biggest reasons there was a "shortage" right after katrina was because there was no electricity to pump it out of the storage tanks at the service stations. Once power was restored, most of the shortage was solved.
These people are not taking anything away from anyone. I haven't heard of anyone not being able to get gas, as of yet.
Thank You there is plenty of Gas! Everyone Take a deep Breath it will be o.k.

Because they see the price of oil go up, they know that the next tanker load they buy will cost them a whole lot more. So they up the price now to pay for that next tanker load.
So then wouldn't they at least wait to SEE it go up rather than assume it will and THEN charge more for the load they JUST purchased rather than for the stuff still in the ground? :smt102
