I know most of us will be well enough prepared we won't need this, but I thought it might be fun to share our survivalist skills. I'm gonna get things rolling with an unrecognized south MS food source, Cat Briars. I've also heard them called tie vines.
We all probably have some in our lawn somewhere. They are considered a weed by most people.
Here's a picture of one strangling a crepe myrtle in my flower bed.

This plant has potato like tuber root that when prepared properly is nutritious & tasty.
Peel & boil the root til soft then mash & strain out the fibers. The resulting soup can be drunk or boiled down to a mush or if set aside to cool it will gel sort of like a consomme. It tastes sort of like a potato, I like it with a little salt & pepper. It can also be used as a starch rich thickening agent for soups & stews, or when dried to a powder and with a little grease or oil can be used to make a stiff chewy biscuit.

Poke salat. Just be sure to parboil and drain, then cook, as the leaves are slightly toxic. Best mixed with greens or spinach.

Ifn' ya'll get hungry enough, I have plenty of these things in my yard....Some of them have bulbs as big as a softball! Feel free to take as many as you want! They are so hard to get rid of (you really have to find the source, and dig it up) and they grow super duper fast!

If you have a pellet gun doves are pretty easy to get in town. It's illegal, but hey, in an emergency I think the authorities would let it slide.

Other humans usually work too, well at least that was Jeffrey Dahmer's philosophy.

Squirrels are good but this time of year you have to be very careful of parasites, that's why I didn't mention them.
Wood Sorrel
Wild violets
Wild onions
Dandelions
Arrow Root
and many other wild veggies are abundant in Mississippi.
If you are starving in Mississippi you are doing so from ignorance, not scarcity.

Dandelion tea:
Gather the parsnip shaped root of the dandelion, rub the skins off them under running water, roast them til they are about the color of pine straw, crush them up & either wrap them in cotton cloth or use a tea ball, boil them for a few minutes (til the water looks like coffee, it takes about teaspoon to a quart of water) it tastes like coffee with a little molasses in it. But, unlike coffee, it has a calming, soporific effect.

Creamed wild onions:
Gather wild onions, wash, boil til limp in the liquid obtained from cat briars, add milk or oil (if available) add salt.

Wood sorrel pie:
Boil down Cat Briar starch to mush, add sorrel flowers, leaves & stems.
Add sugar (if available, if not, use fruit juice to boil the cat briars in, sometimes you have to be creative) mash out refrigerator biscuits (if available, if not you can use any dough you can find, even cat briar starch, once again be creative) bake til crust is done set aside to gel. This will yeild a tangy tasty treat. Sorrel tastes something like rhubarb.
The reason I don't give measurements is that in an emergency you don't know what or how much ingredients or the size of utensils that will be available. Survival food is largely invention.

Where's Euall Gibbons when you need him? But I can tell you one thing....if food gets scarce, I'm going on a diet. But I'll be danged if you'll find me in the woods munching on some weeds. I ain't a billie goat!
