I'm in the process of getting my firearms insured and increasing the coverage on my house. I went to see my agent at the end of July and he put it all in the computer system but didn't finalize it because he needed a description of each firearm and it's value listed by a gunsmith. I got the paperwork yesterday and dropped it off at the office this morning. When I called to make sure they gave it to him he confirmed it and all the paperwork looked good but... in his words, "Due to the storm Gustav I can't finalize anything until it passes and you'll just have to chase your guns down if they get blown away."
This process started a month ago. I can't help how long it took the gunsmith to give an appraisal to my stash. Now my house which is now valued at $110k still only has $64k coverage on it. If something happens I'm going to be absolutely livid. I can't see how it's legal to back off of something that started a month ago just because they might have to follow up with paying.
I've known my agent for a long time and I don't think he'd ever try to screw me over.
Anybody have any input, possibly legal input?

They won't write polices with a named storm in play.
That's SOP.

Your agent didn't actually "start" anything with the company. That paperwork he may have started filling out? Went in a drawer.

if a named storm is anywhere in the Caribbean or Gulf, there is no insurance company that will write or make changes to any policies.
it's a Bit*h when saturday someone comes in and buys a car without any insurance- they have to keep it there-

He made all the changes in the computer but suspended it until the appraisals came back.
I also made a note to him that my 77 ford work truck had accidentally been changed to a 77 honda accord. Can't change it now.

My husband has a gun cabint full of guns, some of them very valuable antique ones. I guess that we will try to keep them from getting wet if any of the windows(God forbid!) blow out. We also have antique furniture & I worry about that getting damaged. It was my Mama's Granfather's so it is really old--over 100 years for sure.:ohnoes:

Insurance companies SUCK! It's all good when they are taking your money, but let them have to pay a claim & they threaten to cancel you.
But you gotta have Insurance, what you gonna do?

That "suspension" means it didn't go to the company.
You can use those same "suspension" screens to give someone a quote. He didn't actually start and changes.
