Well, they said that the rule wouldn't affect 99% of people. To exceed their limits, you have to downlaod 124 movies, at once (am I rading that right?).
However, they need to let people know about this "rule".
OMG, are they going to punish the offenders by suspending service? That is just free advertising for DSL.
Comcast's marketing/PR team needs to get with the upper management about this. Clearly, they don't understand how poorly this reflects on the company.

If everyone would start to drop their @$$, they'd think twice about crap like this..
And, I'm sure they'd come off their prices too...

I really don't think anyone here should think this is a bad thing. One of the reasons your internet is slow is because people share files and download movies 24/7 on their computer. This clogs up the internet pipes and makes you think myhattiesburg.com is slowing to a halt. Someone has to stop the bandwidth hogs and make sure that everyone gets a fair share for the same price. Want to download 24/7? Pay more. The people that use the internet for information purposes pay less.

Unfortunately I have them. I called them about a week ago to see about cutting some of our cable services and asked when they planned on lowering the cost of their internet service. Lady told me that we were getting such a high download and upload rate from them, and since it cost them to do this, they would probably never lower the cost, but in the future, we could see a raise in the cost. I just hung up on her. Thought that was ridiculous.

pay more for a service that i bought for 50 bucks a month unlimited downloads?
surely you jest.
if they dont want people to utilize their connection then they shouldnt advertise it as 'unlimited' as they have in the past.
they advertise speed then get mad when people utilize that speed and utilize what they pay for?
surely you jest.

This dosen't bother me at all as i use about 100 a month,I have aways loved my high speed and cable, not one problem in years and as for as the price,Iwould pay that just for the history channel,It's the smallest bill i have,I pay it with a big smile on my face and I am dirt poor.

It looks like that's exactly what they are doing. The average user uses 1-2GB per month while some use over 250GB. Why should both of those people pay the same price? You've got just a small percentage of the people in your area hogging a majority of the bandwidth, but all of you pay the same price with no restrictions. Not to mention that most likely, what they are doing is illegal.

because youre not paying for how much you use... youre paying for the right to use it as much or as little as you want
back in my college days... i had a roommate who thought because she was only there half the time, she should only have to pay half of her portion of the rent
so your logic says she should have only had to pay half
you pay to be able to use it as much or as little as you want... the internet is not metered like a powerbill

Great. Well, I'm sure this will slack it off a bit, people are going to go straight to DSL and Bellsouth now. Comcast sucks anyhowTried Bellsouth internet, actually it's AT&T now, had the best, extreme 6.0. The only thing extreme about it was the extreme length of time it took to load. Got Comcast now, if I had to say, I would say it is 5 times faster. Different strokes for different folks.
And the prices for comcast.......man I never get my bill fully paid ...seems like there is always a previous amount due no matter how often I pay 'em.And I only have reg. cable, internet and HBO !!Gotta be kidding, Comcast is less expensive than AT&T. AT&T is $49.95 a month, Comcast is $42.95.

When Katrina left, I still had satellite. The same cannot be said for many Comcast subs.
When I tailgate, DirecTV goes with me. Does your cable extend all the way to the stadium?
When a technical facility goes offline at the DirecTV headend in Colorado, a 24 hour engineering crew is there to fix the problem. No one is in the Comcast Hattiesburg headend past 5pm, M-F.

It also did it when it was real cloudy. I don't have Hattiesburg Comcast, different area. In 6 months my cable and Internet has been down a total of 0 times. Like I said to each his own. Enjoy.

Ditto on all the king's posts.
Should people who drive more pay more for gas?
Should people who eat more pay more for food?
It isn't ethical to charge someone who uses MORE of something a higher price than that which has been offered him just because other members of the society aren't utilizing what they have paid the same amount for to its full potential. If anything, internet providers should be more active in better providing for their customers as a WHOLE, instead of punishing one group of users for basically using something as it was designed to be used. If the speed limit is 70, I'm going to drive 70; and I don't expect to get a ticket for it just because everyone else CHOOSES to drive 40.

I had satellite internet for about 7 years. I would very strongly advise you do NOT go that route. VERY strongly. Experience warrants my advice.

People pay for gas and groceries based on how much they buy. You don't pay a certain amount a month for unlimited groceries and gas.
If Comcast wants to cap bandwidth or charge that 1% minority using all the bandwidth extra then fine, go ahead. I don't download anything near 250GB/month, so I don't care. Comcast, or any consumer level ISP for that matter, cannot deliver constant 6 Mbps to every customer all the time, and whining that they should be able to is naive. If you really need that much bandwidth then go get a dedicated data line running to your house and expect to pay several hundred or even thousands of bucks a month for it. Meanwhile the rest of us who don't download a hundred movies every month will be perfectly happy paying Comcast $50/month for "crippled" service that meets our needs just fine.
Comcast (http://us.rd.yahoo.com/dailynews/nm/wr_nm/storytext/comcast_internet_dc/28837116/SIG=10pbise6l/*http://www.comcast.net/) said it was setting a monthly data usage threshold of 250 gigabytes per account for all residential high-speed Internet customers, or the equivalent of 50 million e-mails or 124 standard-definition movies.</QUOTE>
I don't see how I could ever download that much anyway. Who could?? I mean, unless you sit on You Tube 24/7.

People do though. They carelessly leave file-sharing programs on all the time and clog up the pipe with hundreds of downloads going at any one time. It's ridiculous. When the size of the pipe between me and Comcast is unlimited, then we'll talk unlimited internet usage. Until then, you use your share, I'll use mine.

Well, they are obviously fixing that error in judgment. I'm just saying it's not necessarily a bad thing.
250 gigabytes is about what it takes for their home page to open up!!! slowest som bit I've ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any ones other page loads fast doesn't have all the crp, links and "The fan' (what is that dinosaur).:smt102

If it meets your needs just fine, why complain about it? Why make it an issue for those of us who DO use what is promised to us by the company. I think you should focus more on my "speed limit" analogy than my groceries and gas analogy. I'm just wondering why, if you don't care, you're posting on this thread. Instead of people who use Comcast to its limit getting a dedicated data line, maybe all you who DON'T want to utilize the max Comcast has to offer should just drop cable and get dial up. Don't impede the rest of us from doing what the company is supposed to allow of us. If I'm paying that much a month, I should be able to use cable to its maximum capacity. If you don't want to, don't... and don't pay for it. Stick with NetZero.

Comcast promises a maximum transfer rate. Sorry if you thought that meant it was perfectly reasonable to expect to be able to download crap 24/7 at that rate, or if that $50/month was supposed to buy you the same level of service that businesses have to pay loads of money for. Besides, publishing a hard cap is much better than disconnecting users after exceeding some secret "excessive use" limit. This is the most honest thing Comcast has done in a long time.
The reason I'm posting is because I personally believe that Comcast would be a better service if that 1% this affects would GTFO and leave those network resources for the other 99%.

It is reasonable for me to expect to be able to download whatever I want at Comcast's promised speed at ANY time I see fit. That's why I pay for the service. If they prefer for me NOT to utilize that speed at one time vs. another, they shouldn't advertise on the premise that it is available for me at that rate any time I choose... Period. I mean this isn't even a valid argument. Use it or lose it, that's what I say. High speed internet service should be no different than any other good or service purchased. Like I said, if you don't want to use what they offer to its full ability, don't pay for it. Get dial up or DSL from another provider. It is unfair and unethical to punish one group of people simply because another group of people think that it's wrong for group one to make better use of a product than group two. Also like I said, if Comcast can't deliver on their promise to provide reliable high speed internet for EVERYONE using it, even if everyone is using it to its full capacity, then they should not advertise on the premise that it has that ability.
