I just read in the Sun Herald that folks in MS whose zip code is between 393 and 395 will receive their social security checks early. For many elderly folks, the checks come on the third....Hopefully this will allow some of our elderly folks to buy whatever they need before the storm.

I'm surprised the government thought ahead enough to do that. Once in a while they do get things right. :)

Don't give the government too much credit. We normally have the SS checks in the Post Office a few days early and with the holiday weekend I wouldn't be surprised if they are already available and the Post Office gave permission to deliever them early rather than hold them for the 3rd.
My question would be, will the banks cash them early??

SS Checks normally come on the 3rd. Supplemental Security and VA normally comes on the first. However, for years they've worked to get people to have direct deposit, so all they had to do was tell the banks to release the deposits early (a real banker can jump in here at any time ;) ) and that will be a big chunk of folks with money in their accounts today. Like my mom!

My VA Disablity check is due the 1st and because of the Holiday monday and the weekend - it was direct deposited yesterday (Friday).
My Military Retirement check is also due the 1st and because of the Holiday, it will not be direct deposited until Tuesday.
Most Social Secuirty checks are due the 3rd of the month, but if the 3rd falls on a weekend or a Monday Holiday, they are direct deposited on the preceeding Friday.
If memory serves me correctly, checks are also delievered on the same days as the direct deposit.
