"The Lady Eagle softball team, the defending Conference USA regular-season champions, began preparations for the 2005 season today, with a two and a half hour practice at the Southern Miss Softball Complex."
these ladies worked hard last year. i look forward to another great year from them.
they added 3 to the roster:
Nicole Chisolm from Clinton, Miss. she can play three positions; shortstop, second base and outfield. She was named the team’s MVP in 2003 and was the team’s best offensive player in 2004. Chisolm is the team’s captain, and was named all-district in 2002-04. She's got a batting average of .450, an on-base percentage of .550 and 19 stolen bases.
Samantha Davis is a pitcher from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. In 2004, Davis helped her team to a runner-up finish in the 18 Gold Champions Cup, and was named first-team All-Baseline League. She also helped her team get a runner-up finish at the AFA California State Championship. She received the AFA California State Championship offensive player award and was selected for the ALHS Coaches’ Award. In 21 games, she laid out a 0.73 ERA in 135 innings of sweat, facing 497 batters, allowing 42 runs, 14 earned and striking out 150.
Melody Rossell is a teammate of Nichole Chisolm at Clinton HS. She is a switch hitter and can play both in the outfield and at second base. In 2004, she was named the team’s Best All-Around Player, received all-district honors, and earned The Clarion Ledger’s Player of the Week on Feb. 3, 2004. She also earned the team’s defensive player award in 2003, and earned Gatorade Player of the Week honors. She had a .392 batting average from the right side, and a .408 average from the left.
