It was a nail-biter with Tulane leading by 3 at half time, but USM pulled out a win against Tulane 61-60. This was done without Jasper Johnson who apparently left the team based on problems with the new coach.

"Jasper never really bought into how I thought the game would be played," Eustachy said. "I met with Jasper, and mutually, we thought it was best that we parted ways."

USM is now 10-8, Tulane drops to 7-10. Why Newsguy didn't report this is still yet to be determined.

"...I was hired to rebuild a basketball program that desperately needed it," Eustachy began about Jasper Johnson no longer being on the team. "I'm thinking extremely long term, not short term," he pointed out, "not about winning today's game or the next game or this season. I want to build an unshakable foundation where we can have a program we are really proud of to get the fan base that I know is here," he stated. "Through mutual agreement, Jasper just didn't fit wasn't a good fit." he explained, "he just really didn't really buy into how I thought the game should be played, his stats indicated that, the way they were dropping..." But the coach said, "Jasper is
really a great guy just like other guys that haven't made it this year." "There's a collection of quality, quality people," he began, "we just have to get the type of players, that I feel, not anybody else, but I feel wins basketball games and competes..." When it came to Johnson, "it just didn't work. Jasper can graduate this year and I told him I would help him do anything he can, but [we thought] it would be a good time to part and both parties move in a different direction," he explained.

Just kind of weird. He's graduating this year, this doesn't bode well for NBA draft hopes. Why kill your basketball career because you don't agree with the coach in the middle of the season?

yeah, something's definitely not stirring the kool-aid.

Johnson wasn't doing that great anyway. This shouldn't really be regarded as a heavy loss. I mean, I wouldn't say the season's going downhill cause Johnson is out.

well, I'm going to give Eustachy a few years. He seems to passionate about his beliefs though. He's really animated on the court, just like someone else I watch, Bob Knight.
