AP - Iraq's president said Tuesday it would be "complete nonsense" to ask foreign troops to leave the country now, although some could depart by year's end. Officials began the final vote tally from elections to produce a government to confront the insurgency.

We really need to see the results of the election and see if the violence continues or even escalates. The elections were very successful IMO and there is now some more hope of Iraq pulling through this without civil war.

I just want to see the U.S. pull out of Iraq. It's a huge expenditure.

I think it is a good thing for us to stay for the time being. Once they begin to get get more structure in place, I am sure we will begin to brgin some troops back home.

I agree with you. I also think though, that if we'd put a little more effort into showing them, and letting them do for themselves, it would go a long way in bringing our troops home sooner.

I don't understand, did France have to stick around and help defend us from the British? Did we have to stick around in France in case Germany came back?
