A day after the University of Southern Mississippi Faculty Senate asked the state College Board to begin a search immediately for a new president, Shelby Thames says he has no plans to retire next year when his contract expires.
Thames will be 69 years old in August 2005. He has led Southern Miss for three years.
“Why would I retire?” Thames said in an interview Thursday. “I’m healthy. I feel good. I’m having a great time.”
He said he has not read the resolution from the Faculty Senate which will be sent today to the state College Board. He said he has no plan to read the document.
Healthy and feel good aren't reasons to to not be fired though.
