View Full Version : Local candidate accused of biting the heads off of bats

Okay, so that title is completely tongue-in-cheek, but I got your attention didn't I. The only thing that bugs me about this site, which by the way I love, is that some folks choose to come here and level a bunch of unsubstantiated claims about the various candidates running for local office.

First of all, the decision to run for local office is not an easy one. If you think that doing so is without its risks and without a certain level of sacrifice, think again. While the mayor's position may be full-time, the council positions are not. Everyone is entitled to a private life away from public scrutiny and I can assure you that it is not often the case in local politics.

Secondly, if you have claims or information that a candidate has done something illegal, immoral, or otherwise unsavory, please back up your claims with something that resemble a shred of evidence. Otherwise, at best you are simply wasting everyone's time. At worst you are setting yourself up for a serious libel or slander suit. As I said before, if you know of dirty deeds and can back up your claims with evidence you will be doing all of Hattiesburg a big favor and I am sure that the next mayor will award you the key to the city. Otherwise, can we keep this to a more civil discourse on the future (not just political) of this city.

Sorry for the rant guys but someone had to say something.

Other forums have these same problems. It's called a flame. The best thing about the forum is, here, the person can be ignored, flamed back, or eventually, banned so that they can't come back. With random visitors on the blog, I can't do this.

I agree though, just trying to trash a candidates name because you know it will be viewed is kind of, well, political. And do you really want to stoop to a politicians level :)

I completely understand and certainly am not unwise to the flamethrowers of the world. The big difference here is that, at the end of the day (or election season as it were) we all still have to live here together. I appreciate the level of loyalty that many here have shown to the candidate of their choice. The bottom line is that Hattiesburg is a work in progress and always will be. We should all have Hattiesburg's best interest in mind rather than a single person's (candidate's) interest in mind. I know, I know, that would all exist in a perfect world. fading out to the tune of "its a small world" with puppies and kitties frolicking in the freshly mown grass.

We also call these people "trolls". The one thing you should not do is "feed" a troll when they are "trolling" your site.

put a picture like that in the post and reply

"dont feed the troll"

Funny ecoplnr, your posts are some of my favorites. But then again, we have a lot of great members here now. Maybe the Rowell campaign should hire some of the fine talent here to run her public relations ;)
