A group that is attacking Hattiesburg mayoral candidate Lee Jarrell Davis' legislative record doesn't have to reveal who is financing it because of a legal loophole, a state official said Friday.

So, is there a list I can get that will tell me all of every candidates supporters and how much they gave? If not, I don't see why there's a fuss over not knowing who sponsored this ad.

well whatever you think askbetsy (2 member).. My point is you are trying to disrupt a city election to get back at someone. If the property wasnt up for sale and someone was wanting to build apartments next to your property what would you be doing? Like in the past fighting it and supporting the resident's of your neighborhood. You have a right to do whatever you want so good luck to you.

There may be some truth to what askbetsy is saying. This is the second time this week I have heard that.

I withdraw my last post. It is clear to me now that AskBetsy is a nut case!

Noway, I think the more important thing in what askbetsy is saying is not that she is "defending her neighborhood", but rather she is an elected official using Hattiesburgs tax payers dollars to fund her personal agendas. If she DID use the city postage meter, envelopes, paper, etc... for her personal "defending of her neighborhood", then that is wrong. How would you like to have a piece of property for sale that you had been paying ad valorum taxes on for how ever many years for, then to get a contract on the property for a certain amount contingent upon it being rezoned. Go through all the procedures required to have it rezoned only to find out that the taxes you pay the city for your land you are trying to sell is being used to try to stop you from being able to sell it. Now if betsy wants to lead the pack against this zone change for her and her neighbors,,,, go for it!!! With your neighbors and your money, NOT MINE!!!! I mean whats next, fill her personal vehicles up with gas with a city credit card??? And after seeing her answer the WDAM guys questions last night about who is paying for the negative ads,,,, I mean for real,,,, do you know how to tell when betsy is lying???? Her lips move when she talks.

I didnt see betsy "squirming" I saw her ask you to stop the negative ads and personal attacks. Im in the know and it was a ex fireman that acted alone. Im not her husband or a rowell supporter. By the way why are you running everything in the independent why isn't the Hburg American jumping on your photos and your proof of the illegal activites? The independent is a national enquirer news paper..

well, AskBetsy doesn't have much support on this site as far as registered members (and I say that because we have about 500 unregistered members looking around here everyday), but I think it's really because of their approach. This in-your-fact anti-Rowell stuff just doesn't do anything for their campaign. There are more subtle ways to get your point across. They also must be democratic, because anyone that takes hit at a Republican in this race without supporting another Republican is hurting the Republican race. If you ask me, Dupree is still a strong candidate, and it's going to take a strong Republican to defeat him. So, what if Rowell becomes the Republican candidate, will they then endorse her?

It is not about republican or democrat to AskBetsy. The reason they hate Betsy so much is because she fought against the development of the Long Leaf Trace Apartments and they haven’t been able to sale their land yet.

If Betsy becomes the republican candidate then I will back her. After all I do want party to win. But as for AskMikeBarefield I am sure he won’t. He would rather see his party loose than admit if the roles were reversed and he had been City Councilman he would have fought to keep out the development too. He acts like Betsy has done such a horrible thing but what she has really done is she has served her Ward just as she was elected to do.

askbetsy (2Members) Are republicans they just want someone in office that can help them earn a dollar off of neighborhoods and destroy them

I can sympathize with Mike and Stone on this. It does suck that they are having so many problems but they have the entire ward against them not just Betsy.

Noway, you obviously didn't see her squirming and lying on the News last night. Pay close attention when she's confronted with the envelopes on the air TONIGHT. Watch her squirm! Are you her husband or something? What do YOU know about the defecation of the Fire Chief's office?

It's ok if you type

"teh" meaning "the"

But you typed "tonite"

In no way, fasion, or form could that have been a typing error.

You've made comments about where someone went to school or what education they got? I think you better leave those type comments out while you try harder to post your "FACTS".

And don't worry, we'll "Get over it", but we are going to be laughing the whole time.

anyone who thinks betsy wasn't squirming didn't see the news monday night or the debate. she actually stuttered when she was asked why her campaign manager bought the radio ads for Hattiesburg First. During the debate she was so defensive that she had a complete meltdown talking about speaking italian and all kinds of crap. if by being poised you mean she keeps her nose in the air like she's better than everyone then you're right! by the way, i have it on good authority that Betsy is paying college kids to sit around all day and post good things about her on this website, guess that explains a few people on this board! maybe that's why Betsy had to take out a 50,000 loan last week just to keep her campaign going!

By the way aaron, just for the sake of news that is germane to this discussion, the legislature took up a bill that would have closed this loophole regarding PAC's. Rep. Davis voted to close the loopholes twice but the Gov. vetoed both times(according to the Hatt Amer). At least you can't say Davis didn't try to put a stop to this nonsense! Rowell took advantage of these loopholes and created Hattiesburg First. Talk about a difference in the two records!!

well, i've been a page at the senate and i have seen what really goes on up there in jackson. just because something goes through a vote up there doesnt mean it was taken seriously. i think the whole time i was up there, i only saw a third of the senate actually there, and only a few of them actually voted. and then after the count was taken and there wasnt enough people, its set to the side to discuss the next issue. everyday we had an agenda and i never saw em make it more than about a tenth of the way through it, haha. everyone should have an opportunity to see what really goes on up there.

and btw, if betsy's paying people on the forum to support her, please let me know, haha. daddy needs a new pair of shoes.

yep, I saw Betsy on WDAM, I still didn't think she was squirming, eventhough the Steve Dickson thing did catch her by surprise. I wish WDAM would have moderated that part of the interview a little better.

As far as Davis is concerned, that's the reason I'm not going to be voting for him tempatv, I've heard many stories like that and it's a waste of taxpayer money. There are some states where the legislators don't even get paid, I think we may need to move to that system here.

it'd be hard to pay people to post on THIS forum to promote Betsy, since I read every post and I only know of a couple of really pro Betsy supporters on here, and it'd be my guess that they aren't in college. The blog, however, is a different story, and since any visitor can make a comment, I can't keep up with who's who and anyone can change their name at anytime. That's one of the reasons I like the forum format better, when you have to register and be a little responsible for your posts, it's much better for everyone. Anyone can look in any members profile and simply click a link to find all posts made by someone. Anonymity has also been a subject here lately, and if you want to stay anonymous, you certainly can, because the most I can find out about someone is their email address, and the ISP your using. I can't even retrieve your password, or view your private messages. Other than that, your identity will only be left for you to reveal.

As someone who has spent a good bit of time in the state capital in Jackson, I must say that there does appear to be (to the public anyway) a good bit of time wasted. But I also know that alot of those legislators spend COUNTLESS HOURS reading bills, researching bills, perparing bills and listening to their consituents gripes and complaints through ungodly amounts of phone calls. So, don't be so quick to judge when you don't see all that is done by them. There is ALOT of behind the scenes work that the public never sees! On the other hand, I'm sure that there are also those who do not do their jobs as they should. As for Mr. Davis, he has been helpful to me on numerous occasions in the past when I called him with problems or questions. So, I can't say anything negative about his job in Jackson. I think he has served Forrest County well in the state legislature.

Mr Davis is a fair and honest man who, I think as mayor, will work for ALL of the people of Hattiesburg. Just as he has in the House of Representatives. He helped my poor (literally) grandmother when she had questions and problems regarding her Medicare. Actually, he went above and beyond what he had to do. I think that he is a genuine man who would serve H'burg well.....or that's my thought anyway! Mr Senne also seems quiet nice...very businessminded individual. He would probably be a good mayor or possibly even department head for the city. As for Betsy Rowell......I won't even get started! I have nothing good to say about her. So, for now I will say nothing at all.

I have a question regarding the attack ads that have been running. If what i've read and heard is correct, I'm shocked. If I understand it right, a man by the name of Nathan Jordan is the person who has his name on the group "Hattiesburg First". A friend of mine told me that this man is a PREACHER for a church in the Palmers Crossing area of Hattiesburg. Do any of you know if that is correct and if it is, what type of church does he pastor? I cannot imagine a christian person, much less a preacher, putting there name on ads like the ones "hattiesburg first" are running! If he is behind them and considers that a Godly heart, he needs to reevaluate. That just shocked me when she told me that...................A PREACHER!

well, from what I read, they don't think the ads are negative, they think they are doing Hattiesburg good.

I just read it again, i assume you're talking about Nathan Jordan and Hattiesburg First thinking that they are doing good for Hattiesburg when you said "they". Have you heard the ads on B95..........does that sound like something to any of you that a Preacher, a man of God, would put his name on? He and his congregation should be ashamed if he truely is one. I won't start quoting the bible but I think it addresses how one should treat others.

Reality...I'm not quiet sure what you were trying to say or ask but no, I don't look like that but I wish to hell that I did! Always wanted to be a blonde but I've never had the nerve to go from dark brown to blonde and I'm sure as hell not that skinny! So, just what exactly were you insinuating there Mr. Realityofhub? And regarding your comment about my "poor little grandmother"....She is a pitiful situation and we did appreciate the help that Mr. Davis provided. I was only trying to say that from what me or my family have experienced or know of him, he is a nice man. Unlike you from what I can tell. Was this your way of welcoming me to your forums? Nice first impression of you , I must say!
