Just wanted to say hello to everyone...I am apparently the newest member on MyHattiesburg. I caught wind of the mayoral campaign debates so I figured I'd drop in and add my two cents. I am 18...and a senior in high school, so if that changes or adds to anyone's opinion of me, well so be it! Hopefully my posts will not offend anyone, but just as a little discalimer - I do speak my mind.

This group is dedicated to the school and fans of USM who believe in their retarded athletics motto of anyone, anywhere, anytime. This goes out to the school who has the biggest inferiority complex in the state of Mississippi, maybe even the nation. They are proud to schedule top 25 teams, but ever so often fail to come out on top. The campus is a dump, Hattiesburg is grungy, and the stadium holds roughly 32 000 when you roll out the cafeteria seating. They are jealous of everything Ole Miss is and everything they arent. Talk bad about Ole Miss all you want, but at least the Liberty Bowl isnt the highest bowl game we can ever get to.
Officers
USM gets beat (anywhere, anytime) Wes Rowland
Golden Eagle Game Warden. It's Eagle season. Daniel Horner
I live there. It sux. Thus, I went to William Carey. Justin Patterson

Eh, that's ok. Doesn't bother me. Always in for a good debate, and if they really know their stuff..they realize that its true.
I spend a lot of time at USM, therefore, I can't disagree that they don't have everything together. Your university will not make you, however, and at least in my opinion, I would talk to an employer first, then go to a university. They would decide who is best for me, not the athletics program. That would denote someone that wasn't going very far after they get that degree anyway.

haha.. couldnt have said it better myself
if i go to a college because of their athletics programs, i dont think i'm trying to represent myself very highly for the future.
Employeer: Where did you attend college?
You: WELL, I attended Ole Miss. AND our athletics record is just supreme to anyone else.
I'll agree with F150. Although I wouldnt rank USM one of the top colleges to go, I wouldnt turn around and judge two schools based on their athletics programs, or "motto's" that they use. haha

She can also say she completed the honors program. i give props to anybody that completes an honor program at any university. completing one of those goes far beyond what a normal student does. i hope you do well.

I have been on here a few times but will introduce myself. I am Tommy J Roberts Sr. Born and raised in Hattiesburg. I retired from the U.S. Army in 1985 returning here to stay. Just an ordinary Citizen who voices an opinion here and there. I am glad this site is here because if you want to be heard this is a great place. You don't have to be the chosen few to be here.

Thank you..I'm glad someone realizes that. I think that everyone here mistook what I posted earlier about the Southern Miss athletics program. I am obviously not going to Ole Miss because of athletics...I mean, hello...what was our football record last year?? I just thought that was a humorous little statement, and seeing as how you all were downing me for going to Ole Miss, I thought I'd share it.

As for that...the field of work that I plan to go into doesn't exactly have an employer persay. I plan to become a member of the U.S. Senate, and yes, I have talked with several senators and congressman as to what I should study. So thank you for that little assumption that I am going to Ole Miss because we won the series in baseball this year, but you are incorrect.

A senator? Ohh well, you don't need to go to school at all. You just need to learn to lie to me and kiss my butt at the same time.

Actually, I plan on being a good and honorable senator, so some schooling is required past the normal "winning a political campaign etiquette" schooling.

NoNoNow Not taking anything away from your opinions but frankly I cannot accept very much from someone who has probably voted once in their life being only 18 years old. That is if you have registered to vote. I think it is great you had a fine education etc but it takes living in this world, nation, state, county, city for a little while to really understand things. Just going along with opinions of people you think tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth will certainly dampen your spirits when you find out they aren't so truthful and not quite as admirable as you think. Course I would consider much of your rhetoric if I knew you paid taxes like the rest of us but being only 18 you haven't given anything other that possibly tithing at church. But being an American Citizen you have the right to be WRONG just like the rest of us have been on many occasions.

I will have to disagree with you there TJROBSR! I started paying taxes at 15 years old when I got my first job. So, why do you automatically assume that NoNotNow has not paid anything except her tithes to the chrurch? Also, from reading her posts on here over the last week or so, she is much more educated than many, many older adults on this site and in this town when it comes to politics. Do you not realize that there are tons of older adults in Hattiesburg who have never even voted either. But would you listen to their political opinion, etc. just b/c of their age? Many junior high and high schools now have debate classes, etc. that focus heavily on politics (even local politics) So, maybe you shouldn't be so quick to judge someone because of their age. She may even know more than you! Ya never know! But you don't have to read her posts or accept her opinions....skip over them and move on but you never know, You just might learn something from her!

What you and I did at our young ages working and paying taxes etc doesn't fit in the young people categories today in my opinion. I am sure there are debates in various schools and children take part in them to get some of the realities of the outside world but many still don't get it. No matter how well educated a person might think they are from HIGH SCHOOL the real world will quickly prove that the education was just a mere stepping stone to higher learning. I appreciated your remarks in defending the young person but you know deep down what I am really talking about. I have met young and old people alike who really Talk a big show but when it comes right down to it they really don't know anything and most of the time don't want to get involved either. It is refreshing this young person is getting involved but the young persons motive IN MY OPINION is highly suspect as it sounds like Political Advertisement Script and is said over and over and over again. I want to point out also that if a person doesn't listen to all of the Candidates and here all the issues from all sides and has a one track mind through this whole thing then they will be doomed to always be a follower. Just my Opinion of course. Still I appreciate all opinions whether I like them or not.

Well I definately missed a nice little conversation over the weekend, but I want to thank ProudRep, and King Kong for filling in for me in my absence :) As for you TJROBSR...However ignorant or close minded you may think I am, it would appear as though you top me in all of those categories. If you think that I have no clue what I am talking about or that I form my world view based upon the views of "people I think tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth", you couldn't be further from the truth. Contraty to popular belief there is such thing as an openminded and informed private school Republican graduate, you may beg to differ, but I am living proof. I don't mean to add to your disapproval of me, but no, I don't pay taxes. What I would like to know is...how will paying taxes enlighten someone as "closed minded" or "ignorant" you think I am. Most tax paying citizens get someone to file their taxes for them anyway. And I am not too fond of the way you capitalized WRONG when you were speaking of my views. If you are so openminded then you would not say how WRONG I am right off the bat like that.
As for your second little post...No I don't have a job...or a job that fits into society's standards today for a job. However, I do have several famillies that I babysit for on regular occasion. That might sound like an episode of Clueless to you, but in case you have never tried babysitting for a family of 7...it is much more difficult and helpful in developing life skills than the jobs that most teenagers have as places such as McDonalds or the Gap. I'm not sure which highschool you attended, but apparently it wasn't a college preparatory school. High school is not a mere stepping stone to higher learning, but simply a prerequisite to attending college. Actually...some of the most successful people I know either dropped out of college or did not attend at all. And I would bet everything I own that they are making atleast another digit higher income than you are. I don't know what I have been saying over and over again in your opinion. I do not recall going around posting LEE JARRELL FOR MAYOR...HE IS THE BEST CHOICE...DON'T FORGET TO VOTE ON TUESDAY... I have simply been responding to the posts of other posters. And before you go assuming that I didn't "here" all of the issues from all of the candidates...think again. Before I choose the candidate that I am going to support and endorse, I look over their experience, their record, and what they plan to do in office. Yes, Lee Jarrell may be a family friend, but that doesn't nix out his plan or his record in office. I still look at those things and base my decision upon those. When you said that you still appreciated all opinions whether you liked them or not...well I'm not so sure you mean that after you told me how WRONG I was in your previous post. Anyway..this is extremely long so my apologies. I'm not sure how many 18 year olds you come in contact on a regular basis or that you know extremely well, but apparently, very few...I may be wrong, or the 18 year olds you know must just be dumb as bricks, and about as ignorant as..well..you can fill in that blank for yourself.

][/b][/color[color=Green]So if anyone disagrees with you Nonotnow they have no business critizing you in anyway?Isn't that what you are saying? Give me a break. I never called you names if you check my posts. I only stated that I am leary of your comments because you are barely out of high school etc. But if you think I am Dumb as Bricks you will be a great politician. Most politicians think that way about the public. It is unfortunate that you have already been brainwashed by people leading you around on a leash toward their goals. You have proven that you are a great follower and I doubt you will be granted a leadership role by those who pull your strings. Add your sarcasm and Self-centerness I doubt you will even be welcomed many places as time goes by. With this Posting I will gratefully leave you alone and you will virtually decinercrate all by your lonesome and I mean Lonesome.

Actually, TJROBSR, if someone disagrees with me, they have the right to criticize me, and I am open to their criticisms. However, someone that think I am close minded and know nothing of the world simply because of my age, yet calls me wrong (displaying his own closemindedness) has no right to. Words are cheap...you need to be able to back them up by your actions, but in some cases words are worth a million actions when you diagree with yourself in different sections of the post. I never said that you were dumb as bricks..I just said that if you think what you think about all 18 year olds, then the 18 year olds you come in contact with must be dumb as bricks. Contrary to popular belief, 18 year olds aren't a bunch of pot smoking alchoholic under achievers. You know it would appear to me as if I am not the one that has been brainwashed, as you say, but you whom has been brainwashed. You don't realize that there are indeed quite a few young people in the world today that are a lot smarter and wiser with more world experience than most of the generation before them. I do not allow anyone to pull my strings, nor will I ever allow that. I am my own person, setting my own goals, and on my own journey to the top. If people so choose to join me on my journey then they may, but no one will tell me what to do along the way. If you doubt me, fine, that doesn't bother me. Hopefully I would have the self-esteem high enough not to get hurt by someone on an internet forum who says I am going to be a complete failure, simply because he disagrees with me. How do you ever expect this generation to succeed and go on to lead the world once your generation is gone if you just tell all of them that they are a failure and have no chance of leading because they are 18. You were 18 once. However ignorant or self doubting you were then doesn't mean that we all are thay way as well. I'm not too sure what you meant by "decinercrate" but whatever it is...it's not going to happen to me. Too bad this thing doesn't have spell check for those of you whom enjoy making up words to sound intelligent.
