I have it on good authority that the Hattiesburg City Council is meeting as we speak to consider new appointments and reappointments for the new term. My source says that there may be some changes in the works but would not elaborate.

that is in interesting news flash Tully. Do you know if the meeting is open or closed to the media?

Is this a work session or actual meeting? Why wasn't the public given any real notice?

As far as I know the meeting is open to the media. In fact, I received my information from a member of the media. I am not sure if it is considered a work session or an actual meeting. My source referred to it as a 'called meeting' of the city council. I have no idea what, if any, notice was given prior to the meeting.

I will talk to my source later this afternoon and post whatever information he is able to share.

I talked to my contact again and learned that today's meeting is essentially a work session designed for the Council to review the Mayor's appointment recommendations with no official actions expected until the next regularly scheduled board meeting (Next Monday and Tuesday I believe).

The meeting was not necessarily open to the media but they are apparently hanging around trying to get bits and pieces of news.

Great work, Tully...

When is the next meeting? When do they usually meet? We need to start having a presence there, if a group isn't already doing that...

Way to go Tully!!! I heard on WDAM that it was a work session. They hope to decide on the Mayor's appointments the first meeting in August. Sources have told me that this work session was an attempt to keep the media away. Dupree said he hoped he had the council votes 5-0 and if the council have some issues with his appointments "maybe we can iron them out".

I picked up this evening that the Mayor is reportedly dismissing City Prosecutor Mary Moore Conville and possibly Municipal Judge Win Pittman. All in the attitude of, "I won with 60 percent of the vote and can do what I want!"

This is just yet another disturbing sign that if you aren't either African American or a DuPree hack, you do not have a voice in his Hattiesburg. Lamar County is going to continue looking better and better to people as a result. Just please let us get our schools built before you come!
