I read with great sadness the posting of beggingforrelief in the thread "DuPree and Company's Post Election Antics Continue", (7-14-05 at 3:35 p.m.)

I also re-read with great anger the "challenge" extended by someone else on this site who earlier "chastised" some of us for not doing our own research, and, in her opinion, simply being swayed by rumor and innuendo.

Well, I've taken up the "challenge".

For weeks many of us have suspected that someone has been planted on this site to report to the Mayor anyone that may be in any way connected to the negative things being said about him. I didn't believe that to be the case, but now I know that it is true.

The first "fruits of her labors" have been witnessed in the transfer of the Second Floor employee referenced in beggingforrelief's post. This innocent person was "turned in" to the Mayor, was falsely accused of providing information to someone on this site, and was transferred to Dr. Terrell's department. This employee never talked to anyone about anything on this site--not even the postings that referred to her personally. She was and is stil so traumatized by the Fairley episode that she still feels so threatened and intimidated that her health is at risk.

The Spy-der Woman that turned this poor person in had no proof, no direct knowledge of any conversations between the Second Floor Employee and anybody else--she only had a vendetta out to ruin two people's reputations as best she could, while endearing herself to the gullible Mayor who allowed her to do it.

The same Spy-der Woman's name has been mentioned to me as having been an active participant in advising the Mayor on the demotion and transfer of certain law enforcement officers who "crossed her" or might have once expressed their displeasure at her "close relations" with certain other officers.

I hope the Spy-der Woman reads this tonight and somehow feels the slightest bit of guilt for her actions, because any sense of guilt will be evidence that she still has a soul worth praying for.

Omerto:
It is truly saddening that someone such as Spy-der Woman can affect so many innocent City Employees on just a whim. I used to believe that DuPree was not such a bad person -- just surrounded by bad people, but how can a "Leader" allow people such as this to cloud his judgement when his decisions affect the citizens of this city? A true "Leader" would not allow someone's personal vendettas to influence him. It's ridiculous that she is allowed to take our city down this path of destruction. I have absolutely no use for DuPree and his henchmen or henchwomen!

My understanding is that Spy-der Woman had a deep religious experience/conversion in recent years. She is proud her new sense of morality and lectures those around her about her high moral principles.

The person described to me must have "back-slid".

She purposely lied about the employee--someone who could never pose a threat to Spy-der Woman even if she wanted to. Spy-der Woman did it just because she wanted to and because she could. That is EVIL.

Spy-der Woman's other agenda was to cast doubts and aspersions on the character of the person she claimed that the Second Floor Employee was passing the information on to for it to be posted here. She had no evidence or proof; she just happens to dislike this person and knew the Mayor would accept her word without checking with the person. That is STUPID of him and EVIL of her.

As far as the police officers are concerned, we are all praying for them and their families. Isn't it enough that they go through Hell on the streets of Hattiesburg? They shouldn't have to worry about having offended somebody once "before she was saved."

The "famous" Hattiesburg First flyer asked the question, "Who's in Charge at City Hall?"

They claimed it was Rev. Fairley. The SecondFloor Employee and several demoted and transferred cops happen to think it's Spy-der Woman.

I agree! This Spy-der woman has caused enough trouble. What she is doing is totally wrong. She has a personal vendetta and will stop at nothing until her blood sucking thirst is quenched.

I will say however that in order for someone to back slide on their morals they would first have to have morals and I do not believe this to be the case with her.

I agree Kong. Threats and intimidation show no morals or character. It's time for the citizens of Hattiesburg to take their City (City Hall especially) back from these tyrants!

She earned her real reputation when Ed Morgan was Mayor. The policemen on force back then had a "private joke" that said "Salute if you've slept with ---- -----. ". Story I heard is that a whole lot of choirboys saluted with grins on their faces.

That's not to say someone can't change. And I understood that this person had in fact given up some of her wild ways.

It bothers me though that she can be so self-righteous about some things and then knife these two people for no apparent reason other than pure meanness.

And remember . . .the Spy-der can come after anyone next. All she has to do is whisper in the Mayor's ear and "it's gospel."

It seems like poor ole Johnny must get confused with everyone whispering in his ear. He probably doesn't know which one to please first. Spy-der woman is worse than Fairley!

Maybe I'm just a pragmatist, but the citizen's of Hattiesburg voted these tyrants in (http://www.myhattiesburg.com/blogs/index.php/2005/06/08/four_more_years) and I agree with noway, it's going to be almost impossible to get them out. I think it'd be better to discuss achievable goals, and then step by step solutions to the problem. We can raise our torches in the streets all day long, and that may get us a story in the evening news, but I still don't think Dupree will change. If you want this to stop, I think a more complex answer is needed.

Well, as I've stated several times, I think the way to get things done is through the council. If you wanted your country to do something, you'd talk to your congressman. Same situation here. The council is the key, and I would be on the second floor of city hall with bells on, on Tuesday.

The the question becomes, how do we get people involved? Two suggestions. First, maybe take it back to the 70's. Politics doesn't talk to this generation, partying does. So, tell all your friends that your going to meet at the city council meeting and go out for drinks afterwards. Make council meetings a social affair. Second, advertising is also something I would do. Recycle all of those Betsy M. Rowell yard signs to be city council meeting advertisements. Right now, it's probably a blurb in the American. Make the meeting big news and something that everyone should do. If we could get the Walnut Circle Grill to do some kind of event like "After the Council Meeting" with a band and a happy hour, maybe we could pack out the 2nd Floor of City Hall. Then they could help out with some of the media advertising the meeting and the event afterwards.

Why would Fairley need to run? He's already in charge of City Hall!

Spy-der Woman (BB & MM) is not the only ones that wanted this employee moved so did the Rev, but they thought she would just quitly quit her job, but she is still hanging on last I heard. The Rev has several employees under his hypnotic spell including spy-der woman and 3rdflooremployee if they are not the same person than they have filled the same shoes! You can say that the gates of hell has got a crack and it isn't going to seal up it is going to get bigger! They may wait a few months or a year but JLD's true colors are showing! The employees at COH are afraid of saying anything but I would just say Fire Me Please! Your pocket would be turned inside and out for the money you would dish out to me! Does anyone know if the 2nd floor employee has anything in her personnal record that would make them transfer her to another department! If not I would be dialing '0' for the best attorney to handle my case and be laying back waiting for my check to come in!

we need to organize like aaron said. we need to make the council meetings our own party. i dont know how we organize but i know it is what we need to do. There is power in numbers. It is always the squeaky wheel that gets the greese. Near the end of his life Frederick Douglass was ask by a young black man what he should do to overcome the oppression's of the time. Douglass said, "agitate, agitate, agitate". That is what we need to do. We need to not just be one fly in the butter but many flies in the butter. We can either sit back and let the mayor get away with punishing people for disagreeing with him, and allowing our police department to become a shell of its former self, or we can get busy finding out how to strike back effectively. We need to be relentless in our opposition to this form of intimidation. And the mayor's actions have brought about this consern. This time its not just fairley. Go back and read the post, all of us talked respectfully about the mayor, how we believed him to be a strong, intellegent, christion man. He has done nothing to make us continue to feel that way. He has done just the opposite. He has made us see him for what he really is. His weakness of letting the wrong people influence him, the weakness of not taking the police chief to task for his tyrantical management style, the ignorance to think that he can behave anyway he wants, and thinking that not allowing the Independent to get close to him will stop them from getting at the truth, and the unchristian manner in which he transferred the city employee for something that spy-der claimed happened, which we know now did not. Im feeling like "Bluto" the character in Animal House played by John Belushi, giving his speech when all seems lost. Dupree---gone!! Wynn---gone!! Fairley---gone!! PR/body guard---gone!! Spy-der---gone!! Neidermeyer---gone!!(I'm sure he is down there somewhere) At the very least a toga party at city hall:Dis called for, that might get WDAM and the HA out.
Think about it. We all love this site. We appreciate the hard work and civic mindedness of Aaron. Everyone that is here is here because of their honest desire to dialog on how can we make our city better. How we can save it so future generations will see it as we have. And the mayor of our town, elected to serve the citizens of Hattiesburg, is punishing people on the basis of rumors that they have said something negative about him on this site. It is our right as Americans to express our opinions and conserns without fear of retaliation. It is our constitutional right to peacefully assemble and express our grievances. Johnny Dupree was not elected King of Hattiesburg, he is our servant. Eventhough he has the arrogance of a king.
Our biggest problem is apathy and a press that does not probe deeper than the surface to inform us on what is going on. We should have the right to see our elected officials answering hard questions. Not locking out the press. They spend our hard earned tax money. They work for us. Not the other way around. How many police have to quit before we say enough, all of them? I for one dont want to wait that long. I still live in an area that needs police protection.
So lets put our heads together and see what we can do. We have lawyers here, people who work for the city (although we probably cant expect many more to come here). We have very articulate intellegent people who there is no question as to there loyalty to this town. Heck we even have a famous gorrila. And no one doubts Hawkeye's keen native american ability to track, locate and bag a problem. And his low tolerance for litter. And Hubbarristers unique ability to stay on topic and lay the facts out in a way that offends no one but still makes his point. We need him on retainer. Anyway how do we go about it, how do we organize? How do we solve this problem, i think Aaron is on the right track. More people at the council meeting then can be seated so they will have to move to a larger venue, and some of the more articulate and brave people getting up and telling it like it is. I fear public speakin more then death, but im sure there is someone here who is great at it. I know the Kong fears nothing but tall buildings and airplanes.
So I would like suggestions on how to get the non voters to be less apathetic and how do we get the press to get more involved. hundreds of emails. boycott, etc. Something has to be done now. See you tuesday.

I would also like to encourage those who live in the surrounding area to attend the council meetings. I'm sure there not going to be checking IDS at the door, since they won't do it at the voting booth. Even if you don't live in the limits, you are affected by the city. I live not but 100 yards from the limits, but I do work within the limits, what happens with the city affects my job greatly. You never now when they might bring up incorporating more of Oak Grove, someone has to be there to oppose it, unless they change some things.

I really think that if a group shows up to support Wynn's removal, he won't get reappointed. You have to prove to your council member that if they go against the grain to make some of these decisions, that you will still be there when it comes election time. Instead of the apathetic turnout that we had in the last election. I also do not see why a restaurant downtown would not want to get behind this. We're not asking to support one thing or another, just support people going to the council meetings and getting involved.

And, it looks like we have another locally owned business "opening soon" downtown, which will cater to the X and Y generation, as well as the spry Boomers.

I believe this new business, operating out of the old Coca-Cola building, and with the ambeiance of a Blues Alley sort, will be a hit, if the public feels safe in the area at late night.

The need for the very best HPD ever, has never been more important to a successful redevelopment of Downtown Hattiesburg. I certainly hope the present Admin realizes this and puts 24/7 protection in this sector. Otherwise, this young entrepreneur will be pouring his money down the drain.

IMHO, Downtown has the potential of becoming a new "Beal Street", but its going to take some strong measures to gain peoples trust that they will be safe.

I would feel totally safe to go Hawkeye. Especially with Murdock working at the FCSO service station just up the road. LOL :smt118
