Just no info as of yet, but I'm sure someday we'll get to the bottom of it.

This might be from an old site, but there is also the Hattiesburg Islamic Center at 413 Magnolia St., near William Carey College.

The is also at Southern the Muslim Student Organization led by Dr. Ader Ali, he can be reached at 601-266-4949. That's from the USM site, so I'm sure it's ok to give that number out. He'd probably have a lot of info. I'll try talking with him next week.

From what I see, this is radical religious groups that are backed by people with political interests. These people are getting money from somewhere, and lots of it. Someone wants to see us at the bottom of the totem pole and it's convenient to give these radicals money to do it for them. China? Libya? Iran? The list could go on and on.

There are a couple of very dedicated Muslims in the Jackson area who are visiting Protestant churches (upon invitation) across the state explaining the "fundamentals" of their faith, their similarities, differences, etc. They visited my small church and were very impressive. They talk alot about the extremists and how that is not part of their basic value system. I was actually quite impressed by their presentation and would recommend them to anyone.

I can also recommend a book they did not discuss. It's called "Bethlehem Besieged". You will not agree with much in it . . .but it will make you see much in the Middle East in an entirely different light. I got my copy at Books a Million. As I said, you may not like it (I didn't) but it will make you think and watch the news with a different perspective than that you are now comfortable with.

New question: What, if anything, separates the mind-set of a guy like abortion clinic and Olympic bomber, Eric Rudolf, from someone like, Islam Whabbi fanatic bomber,Ali Hassin Abul-dodo or whomever?

Hawkeye there is a huge difference in the mind-set. of abortion clinic bomber, Eric Rudolf and terrorist Ali Hassin. Eric Rudolf wore a John Deere hat on his mind-set and fanatic bomber Ali Hassin Abul-dodo whore a rag on his mind-set. Jeesh Hawkeye man get with the program!:-D

yep, but hating America has been every foreign country's favorite past time for years. We need a democrat in office. That way, the world gets a rest, and we get run over for a while.

How many? Where? Mosque? History?

They're fair questions. We talk about BVAP and illegal aliens, so I'd like to know if anyone has the skinny on HUB Islam? I know they exist, Afro-American and Middle Eastern. I know they used to throw a little shin-dig on Edward St. and I've seen some on campus. Is there a local Mullah? Who's the top knot? Who speaks for them? Where do they stand?

No disrespect intended, just need to know. Everyone needs to know, just like they need to know about other important elements in their community.
Hawkeye,

In a much earlier post, 2002usmgrad provided a link to a Web site for the New Medinah community. Here is a link to a bit more information about this group (http://www.pluralism.org/research/profiles/display.php?profile=69153).

This is probably the most stable group ... certainly in our area. There is a Mullah, a school, regular religeous services, and other fairly typical community activiteis. I've heard the Mullah speak and we had a nice conversation. His major message is that the religion, as a concept, does not embrace the radical faction we hear so much about. His concern is that everyone, that is part of the religion, will be wrapped into one blanket.

I share your overall concern. I spent several years in the Middle East. I lived in Saudi Arabia and spent time in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Iraq. During this time I saw many stages of the religion ... from extremely liberal to extremely radical.

We can't paint with one brush, but the bad news brush can truly be bad news. We've learned that, in Spades.

I agree totally. What concerns me is aiding and abieting (sp). And, I don't see the moderate bunch stepping up to the plate. Perhaps, and hopefully, this is not for me or us to see. If so, good.

BTW: Good to see you back!
Unfortunately, when the moderate step up, they become victims. We see it every day in Iraq. The radicals have no problem blowing up their Muslim brothers and sisters, young and old, when they step up to the plate. This is their most Holy season and the intimidation against their own and others is still in high gear.

It is an incredibility serious situation with a history many of them don't clearly understand. For example, more than once I've been at dinner with a group of Arabic Muslims and simply asked for a explanation of why one sect is a war with another sect ... or one country with another.

One guy starts an explanation, another disagrees ... and a verbal battle breaks out between them. Neither has a full explanation about why ... just the fact about that's how it is. Difficult for us to fathom and that's a significant part of the problem with dealing. Moderate Muslims are at work but very carefully.

All of that being said, Paris is a excellent example of pending problems. France probably assimilated better than most European countries ... but that doesn't seem to be good enough. Riots are the result.

BTW: Thanks for the welcome back. I've mostly been around but lurking a bit.
