Here's a poll for you guys...

Who will be the first of the powers that be to be indicted or charged?

just-Wynn

Why is Wynn not Wynning this poll? Wynn is obviously the best quantified for the position.

From what I think I understand about what some have posted here, I would have to think that the person referred to as BB will go down first.

If I understand correctly, BB doesn't even any longer work for the City, so how can she go "down"? She, if anything, just seems to have stronger access to the Mayor's ear than most. How can that then can she go down, minus and indictment or something, which no one has accused her of doing anything illegal anyway?

The only person I have ever heard of doing anything illegal is Fairley.

I agree with Hubbarrister. It amazes me that BB's name continues to be mentioned here. You guys got your wish a few weeks ago when you essentially drove her off of this site. In addition, she no longer works for the city in any capacity. As far as the facts bear out, BB is not even relevant in terms of this poll. Some of you guys seriously need to move on to more important and relevant issues.

I agree...the attacks about this individual's personal life were out of bounds. I'm not a fan of her politics, particularly, with regard to the Mayor, but some of the attacks, even if true, didn't belong here.

No offense taken Mickey. It just simply does not make sense to try to create scapegoats where none exist. If people have a problem with DuPree and gang then there are proper channels for communicating those issues. While this site is certainly one of them, let's focus on the issues that are truly important to the future of this city...not external factors that have no real bearing on the issues at hand.

Peoples, peoples, peoples. Honestly now. Do you think that Wynn is just going to be brushed aside by a lil investigation on false allegations? Wynn is dug in too deep here. If Wynn does happen to be up-rooted, you can expect alot of dirt to fall from those roots. Of course we don't have to worry about that. As long as "the powers that is" stay "the powers that is" you can expect to see alot more of Wynn's beauty and grace all over the place.

We all know that there are members of the DuPree Gang that need to go. My personal bests are Beverly Magoo-Commadore, Field Marshal Wynn and Osma Bin Fiero. The city council has the power to approve or disaprove who DuPree puts back as directors.

The only concern that I have been hearing is that Frankie Benton and other Afro-American leaders are putting pressure on Kim Bradley to approve all of DuPree's appointments. One of my Afro-american friends (also an employee) has even heard of a boycot of Mr. Bradley's business if he doesn't vote their way.

If you know or believe that a change is necessary fir H'burg, get on the phone or stop by and talk to Kim, Red and/or Carte and express your concerns before its to late for us.

This is not as important as the others, but Clemon Terrell isn't doing a great job in my opinion with the parks department. I've played city league softball for the last two years and management makes constant mistakes. No one I know will even go near the basketball league, which is a shame, cause several of us love basketball also.

JB2379
08-01-2005, 05:28 PM
Clemon just doesn't seem to know what he is doing with the Parks and Recreation. Seems as if he is lacking management skills, and doesn't have a clear vision of the direction of the parks and recreation department.
As for the rumored boycott of Kim's business, that just sickens me. But, I'm pretty sure any attempted boycott of Kim's business would not be successful, because too many people like him and know that he is a good business man, who shouldn't be forced to approve Dupree's appointment.

Has a boycott of any business in Hattiesburg ever been successful? If you can't get people to vote, why would they care about a boycott?

I am sorry if some of you took my post the wrong way I never meant for this to be a race issue I received food stamps myself for three years while I got my family back on our feet. What I was saying is that Fairley goes after the poor and unfortunate people who needs a promise of some type to live day to day he made promises of food and money to get those people in to vote. He knows what type people he needs to approach. So again I will say I am sorry but I never brought race into this some readers made this a race issue!

Here's some scoop: apparently the DuPree administration is looking for ways to get around the Attorney General's opinion that states that Mayors should submit their department heads for confirmation vote by the council even if they are reappointments (like Wynn). Ironically enough, it was then-Councilman Charles Lawrence who went and got this opinion when Ed Morgan was entering his second term, and now that the tables are turned, DuPree wants nothing of it.

Another option the council would have, is simply refusing to fund the salaries of the officials they disapprove of, if they are not allowed this confirmation vote. Tell Wynn, he can stay, but he'll do it for free. I would hope that it does not come to that, but that is an option.

OLDLADY
08-03-2005, 11:49 AM
Hub, I have a question...since dupree has not brought this to vote to the council yet, how long does he have? Can he do it 3 to 6 months down the road? or sooner? what are his benefits by waiting so long?

just-Wynn
08-03-2005, 12:06 PM
Tell Wynn, he can stay, but he'll do it for free.Wynn is sure that if he was denied a salary, the peoples of his.....this, city would rush to aid him financially because of the tremendous ethical class and character he displays. Or Wynn supposes he might be able to talk his way into a slice of the "bond" pie. :smt023

Hub, you must have gotten your info from Bob Pittman. I just picked up this week's Independent and the lead story is how Johnny might have that loophole of reconfirmation of his department heads. In the article it says that Attorney General Mike Moore wrote that a mayor "should submit his appointments for confirmation each term, even if those named are current directors." The main thing here is the word "should", not "shall" or "must." The story also points to the fact that Laurel mayor Melvin Mack (say that 5 times fast) did not bring up the department heads for reconfirmation, but just created 5 new positions. So from what it looks like, DuPree legally might not have to bring them up for reappointment. They also had a story on how Bradley knows he's in a tight spot.

aaron

I don't understand why Bradley is in a tight spot.

And Mack had to get confirmation for the positions that he created, and they were all approved.

2002usmgrad
08-03-2005, 03:38 PM
um, Bradley is in a tight spot because he is the swing vote on these department head appointments, seems like a pretty tight spot to me. And yes, the positions Melvin did create had to be voted on, but the department heads were left there, whether or not the council liked them or not. Melvin didn't give the council a chance to vote on the appointed department head positions.

Actually, this scenario has been discussed in GOP circles for a while now, and the thesis behind today's story was not new to me. As I might have said above (without scrolling up), the AG's opinion was first sought by then -Councilman Charles Lawrence concerning then Mayor Ed Morgan's reappointments. I think it is interesting how people's attitudes change when the shoes start fitting differently. An Attorney General's opinion is just that, an opinion which is not legally binding. I believe it will be interesting to see how this plays out, if the Mayor goes this route.

Apologize to all of my brothers and sister, cause you are showing us little respect.

You must be lonely yourself; I bet last night your own man was a no show.
Disappeared and never returned, somewhat like the Reverands old Afro.

You think you know the whereabouts’ of our wives, do you think that you are God?
The Reverand thinks you need to go home, and quickly get those panties out of that Wad.

Way to go, Rev.. I've given you a hard time lately, but you are dead on with this one. And, for the record, I feel beyond blessed with the knowledge that I do not have to fear where my wife is during the day.

Hillary, contrary to your belief you are going somewhere, the land of getting 39 percent of the vote in Mississippi, just like your buddy John Kerry.

Why is Hillary attacking all of the men here, isn't her man the one who was screwing around on her in the oval office while he was at work? It sounds to me that she has some personal issues she needs to deal with before she comes on here with such an offensive attack. :smt102

Hitlary started out saying she knew where all of the men's wives were during their lunch hours. Maybe it's because SHE was with them. :smt118

It may be Hillary’s thunder thighs cutting off the blood circulation causing all of those heart attacks!

obviously, you weren't very good at rocking Bill's world considering his number of affairs over the years? I mean, he couldn't turn down the likes of Gennifer Flowers and Monica Lewinsky....not exactly a great track record.
