Which is the better country music movie: Pure Country, starring George Strait, or Urban Cowboy starring John Travolta?

C'mon hubb, we've been doing a pretty good job of keeping things on topic in this forum.

It's for REVIEWING movies. :smt102

Pure Country has some of the worst acting I've ever seen in a movie that I liked. For some reason, I end up watching the whole thing, eventhough the actors never really make you believe they aren't acting.

I like both movies and am a big George Strait fan, but I voted for Urban Cowboy. One of my great regrets in life, other than not meeting Ronald Reagan, is not going to Gilley's in Pasadena, Texas before it burned down. I love that whole era of country music: Mickey Gilley, Charlie Daniels, Johnny Lee, T.G. Shepherd, and the like.

Although John Travolta is not a believeable redneck, and I probably wouldn't have reversed the casting between the actress who played Sissy and the woman he leaves her for in the movie (Madeline Smith was much better looking than Mandy Winger), the movie was truly a classic as was the soundtrack. One of my favorite songs of all time is still Johnny Lee's "Looking for Love". I've seen Mickey Gilley at least three times since 2001, in Branson, Tunica and the Coast, and IMO he gets even better with age.

I voted for Urban Cowboy...even though I've seen Pure Country I don't remember it as well as Urban Cowboy which I saw many, many years ago.

And now I have "Looking for Love" by Johnny Lee stuck in my head! :)

I remember going to the skaing rink with my mom as a young kid and skating to that song. In law school, I remember having a (somewhat ineubriated) discussion with one of my classmates over who'd sung the song during one of my ranks over women problems. Now having been married four years, I know the good Lord knew what he was doing. :)

Come on, surely more than four of us have seen both of these country classics in order to make a judgment!

Altho I love george strait....I had to go with Urban Cowboy....it just kinda set the stage...ya know...Does anyone remember way back on Johnny Carson the remark made..John Travolata did "saturday Nite Fever" and disco was a big hit/fad and then came "Urban Cowboy" and country became huge hit/fad so everyone is proud that Travolta was NOT asked to star in "Chain Saw Masacare" LOL :smt054
