Wow, I rode both the Panama Limited and the City of New Orleans back in the day! Miss trains . . .
Cleaned out the freezer in preparation for the Big Move, so Mom cooked butter peas, fried okra, butternut squash (half frozen and half fresh) and cornbread. Good, good! And I've gotta get back to cooking too, now that my kitchen issues are getting resolved.

Last night, Stratton's Mama and I found ourselves at Ward's in Taylorsville. It was an all-time low in Ward's quality! I had a chili-cheese dog - then bun was still and not heated, the weenie was not cooked or heated in any fashion, a square of cold cheese was put under the weenie, and some luke warm chili spread over it. Plus, there was the ever-present mixture of hired help discussing who was "on break...or leaving early...or off tomorrow...while we waited for our food. Stratton's Mama ordered root beer to which the polite (but totally devoid of energy) young lady waiting on us said, "...we out of root beer..."
I loooove Ward's, but I'm going to start cataloging and rating them and putting the word out - I think owe it to the orginal Ward Brothers to do so!

Letha's ain't as good as it was on the riverbank in Marion County in years past, but their ribs are a "sight better" than Dickey's. We tried Dickey's - not impressed at all. "Fast food" ribs - it don't get it. I agree wholeheartedly with the other choices you posted! Strick's is "off and on" with theirs. They got a new cooking system, and it is like when Coca-Cola tinkered with the real thang. Why do people mess with something that's good?
The taste and texture at Donanelle's is far and away the best I've had around here in a long, long time - since the Rib Rack closed.

I was cooking a big pot of pasta sauce for my Thanksgiving lasagna, so I figured it was the perfect time to go ahead and cook the family some chicken catatori with a nice risotto to go along with it.
The best part was the bottle of Napa Valley Cabernet I enjoyed with the meal, then the bottle of Moscato my wife and I enjoyed afterwards.
Needless to say I'm a bit buzzed right now. I rarely drink but went to Strange Spirits and splurged a bit.
I love a nice wine-buzz in the evening.
Life is good right now ('cept for the boy being sick :( )

The first time I ever had chili that way was at the Sonic Drive-In when it first opened on Hardy Street. Been serving it that way ever since. Yum. And I like it with milk, just keep the ice cubes out of it. :)
