I boiled up that low country boil I wanted last week. Shrimp, taters, corn, andouille, mushrooms, and lots of spices. I used a new recipe from The Dean Brothers Recipes from the Road and was pretty impressed. It was really much more of the low country flavor than my usual cajun shrimp boil. Topped it off with a couple of Shiner Bocks and a small scoop of vanilla ice cream. Mmmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmmmmmmm good !!!

Fried Delta Pride farm raised catfish fillets; home cut steak fries from fresh Russet “taters”. Hush puppies with extra onions and bacon bits mixed in the batter. Home made cream cheese and cool whip blue berry pie made with fresh berries picked last weekend. Washed down with a icy cold Barq's root beer in a glass bottle.

so i tried a new way of making roast. i usually throw it in a crock pot with a package of Lipton's French Onion soup mix and let it cook for about 10 - 12 hours. someone told me about putting half a can of coke and beef broth with the potatoes, carrots, and onions. so i tried that tonight. i didn't like it too much. not a fan of the potatoes and onions and the meat seemed a little dry. anyone know of any other ways to make roast a little more tasty?

Belle, try adding two cups of red wine to it when you first put it together (presumes you DON'T any Coke in it). The alcohol cooks off and the meat just falls apart.

Yummo! Sounds great. Southern Belle, you didn't say if you added any liquid to it. I always make gravy the last hour. Strain a little flour and water into it and let it thicken. But if you don't add onions and carrots, it may be lacking moisture. But, bet your bippy, I'm going to add a bit of good quality vino next time. If it ain't fit to drink, it ain't fit to cook with.

I had poke-chop casserole, small salad and my standard freezer cold 2% milk. I have to do something to spice it up a bit next time. I wonder what adding sour cream to it would do. Anybody got any suggestions? Here's the recipe:
Poke Chops - browned in olive oil
Potatoes - sliced into rounds
2 Cans of Cream of Mushroom Soup or Golden Cream of Mushroom soup
1 cup of milk.
Salt & Pepper to taste.

I thought about saute-ing onions in the poke chop grease and adding that. The milk and soup make the gravy. Wonder if 8oz of sour cream would be good.
Here's an idea. Somebody want to start a thread - Share/discuss a Recipe?

Last nite was fine. We had Mallard titties, wild rice, sweet taters, garden salad, and blackberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. I still stuffed.

Mallard titties = Mallard duck breast thin fileted and marinated, then rolled in a strip of bacon with jalapeno peppers and water chestnuts - broiled over charcoal until the bacon is crispt.

a duck hunting buddy always supplies the wild duck and his wife is a berry picker. they came visiting for the weekend andbrought the ingredents for the entree' and desert.

Today will be shrimp day, all day. I bought too many for the restaurant Friday so now we got to eat all we can and put the rest in the freezer for home use.

Umm. That sounds killer. I could knock back some skrimps too. Jambalaya, gumbo, grilled, boiled, fried, broiled in butter, seasoning and vino, shell on. Skrimp salad with a remoulade dressing.

There is marinated chicken ta ta's on the menu tonight. Salad, usual milk, and I'm still undecided about the other veggie. Maybe left over taters with the mushroom soup gravy. If I don't eat that, I'll end up tossing it. I hate tossing good food. But, I hate to have taters or rice without English peas.

I grabbed odds and ends out of the freezer and came up with sausage, steak kabobs, two pork chops an inch thick each, two boneless porkchops 3/4 inch thick. Grilled all the meat and had a pot of garden-fresh green beans and new potatoes. Those boneless chops were the tenderest meat I've eaten, even more so than steak. Strawberry-blueberry trifle for dessert. :)

I made Thai Chicken Noodle Soup because I'm ill and I have a boatload of chicken to use before it goes bad. So incredibly good! I'm a pretty adventurous eater, I think, but I was a little hesitant about this.

jmb...give it a try. I couldn't find any fish paste (not surprising considering I went to WalMart) and I had to use sweetened coconut rather than un. I very thinly sliced a white onion and cooked that along with the pepper (next time I'll leave a few seeds in for some extra heat).

Hermione - he's 12 1/2 - and a box lasts maybe 3 days if I'm lucky. In fact, I think I'm at the grocery story every other day.

My husband lived off cereal the summer before we married and when I'd be away from home, he'd pull out the trusted cereal & milk.

You're right though, I CAN NOT FILL MY SON'S STOMACH!!!! Food that should serve 6 only serve the two of us! I need a loan each month just for groceries! When does it get better?

Back when we only had two of the kids and the oldest was maybe three, two of my nephews stayed with us a week or two during the summer. We had gone to the store before they got there and stocked up on all kinds of munchies...cereal, cookies, chips, etc. They ate good at mealtime, snacked good between meals, and at bedtime. Shortly after hubby and I went to bed that first night, we heard the cabinet doors opening and closing, and food packaging crunching. Chips and cereal were gone the next morning. So I took them with me to the store and restocked. This occurred every night. It got to be a joke between the two of us as to how many minutes it would be from the time we said good night until we heard them raiding the kitchen. :)

It doesn't...boys will eat you out of house and home! My mom always told me not to worry IF he ate...only IF he didn't! I have found that to be true...if he eats he is well, if he doesn't get him to the doctor....he must be on his death bed! :)
