Watched this movie last night. I didn't realize it was based on a DC comics character until I saw the credits. I give it a 4.
It's a very dark tale of the never-ending battle of good vs evil, Heaven vs Hell, God vs the devil. Lots of religious figures, icons, myths, truths, and outright speculation. Religion is an integral part of the movie but some of it you may not agree with.
It's a thriller and the opening scene sets the tone and will make you jump out of your seat. The exorcism scene reminded me of "The Exorcist" except with a different twist. Has several scenes with depictions of Hell and a couple of depictions of Heaven.
John Constantine (Keanu Reeves) is a chain smoking "suicide angel" who finds out he has lung cancer and also that he's on his way to hell, for a reason that I didn't quite understand. He tries to secure a place in Heaven by performing exorcisms and deporting demons to hell but has been told that he'll never make it. Angie Dodson (Rachel Weisz) is the unwitting key in the devil's son's plans to take over earth.
Not a movie for kids, has a sprinkling of foul language and lots of demons, devils, and violence. Is interesting all the way through with no slow places. Two hours of nail biting thrills.
