Hey folks, I see where another person has gone missing in the Hattiesburg area, this time downtown Hattiesburg. I know that these cases are usually pretty difficult to solve, but this is starting to get scary. Is the city becoming that unsafe? You would think that the HPD would have all the resources necessary to solve these cases. Does anyone know if the FBI has been called in to assist the HPD with these cases?
Another thing: Why is it that the Lamar County Sherrif's office can always make the big drug busts and the HPD can't? Just curious!

I am sure it is hard on the HPD when they have to keeping trainning a new police force every few months, and i am sure there lines of communication arent as good as a city with a stable police force.

I am sure as one comes and another leaves that alot of stuff is sliding through the cracks.

Just a thought.

"Is the city becoming that unsafe?"

That's what I've been wondering for a while now. I hear of all these crimes; it's sure changed since I was there.

Honestly, I think this is another example of how unsafe the city is becoming. And once again, it only adds substance to our argument that Hattiesburg is starting to resemble Jackson alot.

Can you post where you saw that- I have searched the HA and did not find an article on a missing person since 7/18. Thanks

Can you say Jacksonburg? Get used to it. They have lost control and it will never be regained. Just pick up a copy of the Clarion Ledger and read and you'll see how much H-burg resembles Jax now. Thanx Dupree, Wynn, and Fairley.:smt070

Jacksonburg! I hate to say it, but that name is a perfect nickname for our city.

Did anyone ever see any news of the body found on I-59 shoulder a couple weeks ago? Police and ME were seen flipping the corpse face-up. This was on the northbound lane near Hwy 98 east ramp. Appeared to be a white male with dark hair. This was from reliable eye-witness source.

I believe that was from an accident the july 4th weekend.. HA had a story on it a few days later..

Regardless of race or sex, I regret that the HPD is using those dirty tactics described by Hawkeye. That serves as a precedent for criminals to do what they want to do in Hattiesburg, because the police really don't care. This is just another example of the bootleg style of training that officers are exposed to under Wynn.

While listening to my scanner the other day, I locked in on an HPD pursuit near the old Sears warehouse on the by-pass. Patrol cars w/flashers on, were behide a suspect[male, black], wanted for questioning. The dispatcher or shift commander [also male, black] told the squad cars to back-off, even though the persuing officer[male, white] said the suspect was only doing 40 MPH and would not head lights or siren. The reason, stated the radio boss, "We got his tag and can get him later". Now, what kind of precedent does that set? This was before the infamous Farris [broken headlight] take-down.

Just reporting the facts/no racially biased agenda.

Hawkeye what scanner do you have ?
and where can I get one that will pickup Lamar Sheriff Dept.?
Thanks

Hawkeye, I sure would like to have Lamar County frequencys too. I have a Radio Shack trunk tracker but can't seem to get Lamar. I have the 800 megahertz and have no problem getting u.s.m. or Hattiesburg. I sure would appreciate any assistance you could give.:smt039

From the HA story... "Webb's silver 1998 Honda CRV also is missing. Glenda Beasley, Webb's sister-in-law, said Webb called her brother and told him she had run out of gas. Before anyone could pick up Webb, she disappeared."

If she had run out of gas, would someone take the time to bring a gas can, add gas, THEN steal the car and take her with it? It just sounds strange to me.

I totally agree with you jmb. The facts in the story just doesn't add up. Either the HA needs to do a better job of reporting the facts or the HPD needs to do a better job of communicating with the media and the public. This missing-person case is very strange.

I dont believe you can listen to both forrest county and lamar county at the same time... lamar county have different trunks than forrest county. You might be able to listen to one trunk then switch to lamar county and not her the forrest trunk.. you trunks understand?????? no really I will double check and see for you tho..

In reference to the lady missing down town,,,, I have it from a very good source that the lady has had episodes of going missing to partake in days on end in the crack/meth world in the past. I don't think she ran out of gas.

In reference to the HPD being called off a chase because the car would not pull over,,,,, that is the new method of handling these situations. Its intentions are to not cause the car being chased to freak out and hurt inocent citizens. Remember the chase that started in Collins I believe and ended on Hwy 49 a couple of years ago? Bet the family of the ones killed in that one wished the law enforcement had backed off of the kids driving that night.

The problem with a policy like this is you have very little chance of prosecuting. Sure, you can prove that a certain vehicle eluded police because you have the tag number, but you can't prove who was driving. Charges can be filed against the registered owner, but if the officer cannot, under oath, identify that person as the one driving the car when it fled then the fleeing person gets away with no conviction or punishment. Fleeing the police is now a felony in most cases, so regardless of the action that initiated the persuit, the simple act of fleeing in a wreckless manner is a felony in progress.
