Every time we go to the bookstore I think of buying some children's books for the little one, but I keep thinking of the ones I loved as a child and can't find them.

So I know there are a few parents on here so I thought I'd propose the question what are some of your favorite children's books?

I loved Dr. Seuss' A Fly Went By when I was little...I think everyone I knew read that book to me! My poor Mom there's no telling how many times she read it! :)

I always enjoyed the Dr. Seuss books. When my youngest son (19 now) was younger, he really liked the Little Critter books by Mercer Mayer. What age range are your kids?

Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown is excellent.

So is Pat the Bunny by Dorothy Kunhardt, Mr. Brown Can Moo by Dr. Seuss, Chucka Chucka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr., The Moster at the End of This Book by Jon Stone and my all-time favorite - The Pokey Little Puppy by Janette Sebring Lowrey.

It has been my experience that the books that keep little one's attention the best are those that have bright colors, repetition and lots of alliteration. Good rhyming patterns don't hurt either.

Hey, maybe the Reverand should get into writing children's books.

Anyway, hope that helps.

Your first in October...congratulations!

Goodnight Moon is always good. I must have read that one 200 times at least. I'd forgotten about The Monster at the End of This Book...another excellent choice. The Jan Brett books have beautiful artwork.

These are great Tully. I also recommend Brown Bear Brown Bear and The Very Hungry Catapillar by Eric Carle. Hands Hands Fingers Thum by Dr. Seuss, The Napping House by Audrey Wood. Also Munchkin makes this flash card flip book that both of my boys have enjoyed. I must say that Goodnight Moon is my favorite to read before bedtime.
