I heard this on the news this morning on the radio so I didn't catch the names. One guy was the leading rusher from last season. Two more have been suspended from the first game. Bower said they violated team policy.

Found an article: http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050729/SPORTS030104/507290368/1025

Good for him! Keep your players in line or you wind up with a team like MSU or the Saints..

This is not a good sign for USM -- losing its returning leading rusher and two best defensive backs. Even in a weaker Conference USA, this might not be a good year for USM.

I hate that the players left the team, but honsetly, it shouldn't have that much of an impact on the upcoming season. The only player that really concerned me was John Eubanks, but he's only missing the season opener against Tulane. Aa bunch of younger players are just going to have to step up this year.

:smt038 Way to go coach. Everyone has rules to follow and if they aren't made to understand this then they will become incompetent bratty adults. I am proud of coach for doing this. Perhaps he knows it is for the good of all the team (mentally and spiritually) to have discipline and respect. If he let them get by with breaking rules this time they would never have enough respect for him to quit breaking them. YEAH COACH :smt038

Let them get by? I had the pleasure of staying with these guys in the dorm last summer. Let's see, a couple of them beat a guy into the emergency room, a few knocked down the door of a homosexual and threatened him, there were multiple vandalisms in the building, the police were called once a week sometimes more. The worst punishment I saw last summer to them is that they had to run the bleachers. These guys can and do get by with anything on campus, as well as, get everything paid for. The fact that this happened off campus and the HPD got involved is the only reason I think your seeing this action being taken.

From reading the story, seems the only ones playing the race card is the HA. There is even a quote in the story that Southern Miss changed their policy between the times. They don't have to release that information, but almost wish they would just to quiet down the racial fact before it gets out of hand.

According to the HA today, these players are now off probabation, without ever missing a game.
