City Council Meeting August 2nd

I picked up the agenda for the city council meeting on Tuesday.. I do not see anything on agneda or work session concerning Department Heads. The meeting is going to be at 4 pm on Tuesday.. Alot of different things on agenda something that caught my eye

Approve purchase of sports drinks for city employees in various departments working outside, due to health and safety of employees working in the heat:smt023

Not for sure what is going to happen in the citizens forum.. ANyone know of someone speaking to the council?

It looks like the Mayor is taking his time before calling up his department heads. It makes you wonder if he is worried that the outcome on Wynn and his CAO might be negaitve?

He is one month into his second term now. The Council should go ahead and act on these appointments.

Part of the Monday work session is a presentation by the Historic Hattiesburg Downtown Association concerning pedestrian lighting in the downtown area. This is an evolving project. Don't know if it carries over to the Tuesday agenda.

So the council has to approve the sports drinks for city employees? Doesn't it seem like there would be someone who could just make that decision on the spot, especially if the health and safety of the employees is at risk. By the time this thing gets approved it's probably been at least a couple of weeks since it was brought up, and if it takes that long to get it approved how long will it take to actually get the drinks, the heat could be over by then. Can we all just chip in and buy em some gatorade mix, I don't think it's that expensive.

When the council approves the purchasing agenda, the P.O. has already been processed. All the council does is question if there is an item or items that are out of the ordinary and they question them. That is the council members who give a flip aboput financil responsibility (that excludes denard and naylor, they can't keep their own finances in order). Most of the time if its in reason or justified, they approve the purchasing docket.

ahh, so if they approve it they can be gulping down gatorade by Wednesday? that's cool. Still seems silly that they have to go through this process for drinks, especially if it's for the health of city employees, but I guess you can't be too careful with the city's money.
