Postman Struggles Against E-Mail Trend
Aug 2, 2005, 04:08 PM
The next time you send an e-mail or a fax or use a courier service, you may be adding to a growing problem at the U.S. Postal Service.
First-class mail is taking a licking and there are no signs that the trend is going to fade. That's because people are using other sources to communicate, like the Internet and fax machines.
Even Uncle Sam has added to the postman's woes, since many tax returns are now being filed electronically.
To keep up with the changing times, officials say the postal service may have to increase the prices for first-class mail.
If the volume of mail that the postal service is handling is being reduced due to e-mail, faxes, etc., why not just cut costs rather than increase postage rates. Seems kinda odd to me...we are not doing as much work as we used to do so we need to be paid more for what we do...:smt102
