Tulane travels terribly and, at the risk of sounding repetitive or like an Ole Miss country clubber grad (which I'm not), USM fans simply don't support the football program in the way they should. I was embarassed to see empty seats in the student section against Nebraska two years ago, and even more so to see 3,000 empty seats for the TCU game the same year, in which USM won Conference USA and bumped TCU out of the BCS.
My prediction: 26,000.

hub, you are probably right.
We need to get our people motivated somehow and get more in the stands.

Eddie, a better question would be: How many IQ's over 100 will be on the field? :smt118

I'm with Aaron on this...I think at least 30,000..Tulane will bring a lot of folks and the game will be telvised on ESPN2. Tulane is in the same conference c-usa right? so I think that'll add to interest too.
USM has done a good job by brining in Nebraska and other big name football teams to Hattiesburg but what they really need is rivals..although Tulane may not be a domineering football team they've had their shining moments. Isn't there some sort of trophy associated with this game as well? like how MSU/Ole Miss have the Egg Bowl. Battle of the Bell or something like that?

HAHAH I have to admit, that WAS funny. There are some great student athletes, but please put them on WDAM! I don't know if I can handle another season of listening to players who can't speak English... or at least Southern.
My guess: You guys are forgetting that this game is on a Sunday afternoon and in the middle of summer. It's going to be HOT. USM is touting group sales to church groups, so that may help some. But, USM doesn't do well in getting people to the games when it's on TV... and I doubt "Sunday afternoon football" on TV, along with a nap, will help get people to the Rock. I hope I am wrong. After attending both schools and being a fan of both, I wish we could have "The Grove" atmosphere before and USM's spirit during. That would be a heck of a football game.

It may be a Sunday game but it falls on Labor Day weekend. I expect there will probably be a good amount of Tulane fans will travel here as well as USM alumni....students? who knows...

The first game may have a good turnout, the area Dixie youth football players get in free and their parents can get in for $10.00. If USM ever hires a REAL football coach, then sellouts won't be a problem. With Bower, this is the best it will ever get.

You guys have seen me post that I am an alum of both Ole Miss and Southern Miss... and I'd take Bower over some of the Ole Miss coaches any day. I liked Cutcliffe... who cares that UM had a losing season last season after Eli??? At least he kept an honest program, like Bower does. One never has to wonder about Bower's integrity. He'd rather lose a game than to have the program embarrassed, and that's great with me all season long. Coach O at Ole Miss... I wonder how long his program will go without being crooked???

I agree Mick. OM pulled the trigger on Cut way to quickly. Lets face it Coach Bower does more with less and runs a clean ship. I don't necessarily like some of the things we have tried to do offensively in the past, but we now have a very good O-line coach in M-Rod, and I think the D-coord.(Hopson) will have a Head Coaching job somewhere soon. If we stay healthy and get consistent play at QB, we could have a good year.
