The American has a interesting article about the parking permit increase at USM this year. The best part for me is quoted here:

He said that over the past two years, more than 1,200 parking spaces have been added campuswide.

The changes, however, have eliminated many of the prime parking spots near buildings and have moved them farther from the center of campus.

Anyone that has to endure parking at USM knows that it appears as though the number of spaces has gone down in the past two years. Not to mention the fact that if do the math from the stats quoted in the article, they are registering over 12,600 automobiles per year. That makes an extra 1,200 spaces look small in comparison.

I know I'm looking forward to Thursday. I plan to get there around 7:30. I ought to be able to find a spot then.

lol, I doubt it, I went by there tonight and most of the spots are already taken by residents already on campus.

Parking at MSU use to drive me crazy. It was great when I lived in campus but being off-campus and having to find a spot was really frustrating. I remember they use to sell more parking decals than they had spots...a lot more decals.

When Joe was attending classes he would leave pretty early to make sure he got a parking spot. He was pretty lucky because his building with most of his classes had a big parking lot beside it and was close to the coliseum parking.

It'd be cool if the city of Hattiesburg had a big parking garage downtown and then could trolley people to campus when the rails to trails is finished. You could charge a monthly fee for parking.
