It was nice to see finally some visible progress on this project that has been talked about forever!
I always hated the s-curve especially when having to ride beside an 18-wheeler through it..you always wonder do they know just how sharp this thing is?
Anyway great to see work has begun on it. :smt038

Actually, construction on the highway portion has not been bid yet. The work going on now is demolition of the low-rent housing that the new highway will run through.
New housing was built for those tenants about a year or 2 ago a few blocks away.

Wynn is so happy with this progress. Wynn gets tired of his gut going from door panel to shifter when passing through the turn. Makes Wynn feel all tingly inside. http://www.clarion-call.org/extras/road/success.jpg

I saw the lumber yesterday on my trip home from NC. They didn't have a looting problem with this load as they have in the past. A few years back I was heading to Meridain and passed the "S" curve just after an 18 wheeler load of bonded whiskey and turned over spilling its contents to high heaven. Looters were running in all directions towrds the apartments, carrying cases of whiskey. Bet there was a high time on the east side that night. :-D
That's because the tenants who lived in the apartments where you saw people running toward have been relocated elsewhere.

The houses there aren't even low income... they are the Laurel Housing Authority... the people have been moved to brand new townhomes and duplex units... I got the opportunity to tour these when they were new, and I would be happy to live in one! HAHAHAH They are really nice and I hope people keep them up.
The S-Curve project, once started, will be any mayor's dream. How many mayor's get the opportunity for the state and federal government to demolish their most run-down, crime-riddin area of town? THe gas stations and stuff will be gone, too. THe new interstate plans call for lots of green space, commercial areas, and lakes.
