Guys, I evacuated with some friends to Laurel and was stuck there at that house until Thursday.

Laurel is destroyed except for 16th Avenue. The museum is okay from what I hear, but couldn't get to it. A lot of the 100 year old houses on 5th, 6th, 7th, etc. are GONE. They are saying we had the eastern eye wall and tornadoes. A guy from Georgia Power came up at the driveway Friday morning. We thanked him and he cried... he said Laurel is the worst inland he has seen. WDAM is not talking about that, but those folks up there need to be in prayers, too. Last count, at least 8 have died in Laurel and Jones County, but there are more that they can't get to. My grandparents are in the middle of Smith County and wont have power and stuff for months. I'm sitting in an air conditioned office with Internet feeling pretty guilty about it. But, at least we know life is heading back to normal.

We evacuated to my folks outside of Ellisville in the Tucker's Crossing community. Major damage out there...every other power line will probably have to be replaced...I've never seen so many trees down. Folks had a tree on my mom's shop, was very close to taking the mustang but didn't. They are a bunch of trees down.

We returned to Hattiesburg thursday as that was the first day we thought we could make it here and back to Ellisville if we needed to.

I talked to my mom today (Sept 9th) and they got power back Sunday. So they had power before us. Not everyone on the road has it back yet but kudos to Dixie Electric and the crews that are helping them. I just knew they'd be without power for weeks.
