I don't know who took over the cartoon department at the Printz, but they don't mind taking some hard-hitting shots at different subjects. Last issue's was about how the convention center coverage was "BET 2" and this issue has a cartoon about how getting across Hardy St. is a frogger episode for students, and that EagleAir (USM students way to connect to the internet) is slow and unreliable. I'll have to agree with both of the cartoons in this issue, but I'm suprised someone out there is saying it, or should I say, drawing it.

:smt038 :smt038 :smt038 I give applause to them not just for someone having guts but for them doing it in art.

Someone probably hasn't said anything about the cartoons because very few people respect cartoons as a medium of any kind other than entertainment and then usually only entertainment for kids. Frankly this is horrible since the history of cartoons originates in political satire!

well, I wouldn't bet on no one saying anything about a controversial cartoon

I'm very impressed with this new cartoonist. After reviewing some of his other work in previous issues (available online at www.studentprintz.com), I'm convinced that he's the most talented cartoonist at the Printz in a long long time. Not only is his artistry simple, yet elegant; his humor is razor sharp. I look forward to seeing more of his work.

I like the last part....

Do you think this cartoon would have been an issue if it was printed at a historically Black college campus or in JET magazine?

I think we all know the answer.

Oh, and I do know one of the artists for the student printz and I do know the drawing u are talking about aaron about the "BET2". And if anybody's wondering, he is black.

Ya know, I agonized over using the male pronoun in that post last night, because I figured that with my luck, I'd pick the wrong sex. My apologies to any and all that I offended.

Regardless, still a very good cartoonist... it's a nice change of pace from Abbenyi Abbenyi.

not a big deal...just teasing you a little.

one of my professors is trying to stop saying "man power" when referring to the police department because he offended some of the women officers. he is now saying "staffing power"! :-D

I really want someone to lay down some hard and fast rules about "the N word," but I want them to apply across the board. The very use of the word in that cartoon is an illustration of exaclty what the cartoon is trying to protest! UNGH. That really annoys me.

The only way I see to get people to treat the N word the same way is to get everyone, not just black people, to get offended when they hear it. I've heard black actors speak out against it. When a black person says it around you, just tell him your offended that he would use such a word and watch the reaction. I don't have a big problem with it, I just hate that I have to censor all of my Dave Chappelle jokes just because he includes the word in every one of them.

I hear some people say "No body should use the word" -- mostly older black people who have struggled their entire lives against the racism that the word evokes, then you see younger folk use the word without any concern other than "If you say it one way its bad, but use it another and it's ok" or "We own this word, only we can use it". I'm of the mind however that if you want to have fairness, you have to be fair and that includes using the same rules for everyone. I just might be a little to ideal for the real world though.

There was a photo there that's basically the same as what you use for your avatar.
