Jodie is flying back to the united states with her daughter and her dead husband on board an airplane. Or did she have her daughter on the plane? Did jodie loose her mind over the death of her husband? :smt102

I wanna see Wallace and Grommit, too! (And I did love Chicken Run) Did you hear about the fire destroying the stuff in their warehouse?

W and G is showing on two screens at The Grand. Looks like we have several options. Not sure when it will leave the theatre though...

Flightplan Jodie Foster, Peter Sarsgaard wr.Peter Dowling and Billy Ray
dir.Robert Schwentke

This thriller gets off to a promising start, but quickly reveals itself to be a convoluted feeble attempt to be Hitchcock. The good news, the acting is good and I liked some of the visual aspects from the director Schwentke. He is developing his own style obviously and is likely someone to watch.

The bad news, the script is horrendous. It's riddled with plot twists that make no sense whatsoever, thus making the whole thing so heavy on the wings it never really takes off. Not to be harsh, but the whole magic of something ringing Hitchcockian comes from the audience knowing what the characters onscreen don't (his famous ticking bomb theory). By the time the screenplay turns to that page, we don't care about the characters because we know what's going to happen.

Foster is a little shrill in places, but plays mania very well. Sarsgaard is always good (see his performance in "Shattered Glass" that was woefully ignored by Oscar) at playing characters with dark edges. The rest of the supporting cast is servicable but quite limited by the dreadful screenplay.

I'm not even going to mention the writer's greatest transgression of all, because I was agape that these guys would actually write something as dumb as this into this potboiler. If you are looking for an airline thriller that really will never qualify as in-flight entertainment check out 'Red Eye".
And if you want to see the insides of a massive transatlantic Airbus like the one in "Flightplan" watch a documentary or two on the Discovery Channel. Since no ratings are in play anymore, I give this one two stars.

While your pacing the aisles looking for entertainment, admire Reese Witherspoon's cute hairdo on the poster for "Just Like Heaven" and pass that one up too. Watch "Hustle and Flow", it may seem a little scary at first glance-but it's an amazing film.

Thank you for all your kind words after my appearance in the HA.
