Post here your good or bad experiences with insurance companies and how well they did covering your hurricane losses.

Or maybe we can't tell who did a bad job, since they probably won't have a chance to respond, but we can definitely tell who the good guys were.

For starters, our adjuster just came to our house today. Even though it took him a long time, it looks like they are being real fair with us, perhaps even a little generous. We have Shelter on our house and personal vehicles.

I've heard some completely different stories from some other large companies.

For our business facilities, we have State Auto. They got here several weeks ago and already sent us a check. They were very fair to us.

I'd recommend either one if you're looking for a good insurance company.

I can highly recommend Shelter for homeowner's insurance. Our adjuster was fantastic. He was extremely thorough and even called me several times during the process to provide much needed advice on how to maximize my claim. Once we finished gathering all of the information I had a check in hand within 10 days. I can't say one thing bad about Shelter.

Like you though, I have heard horror stories about other companies. In this situation I think that the trick is in getting a good adjuster.

I have Shelter for my car... which got caught between a tree and the ground... it was still driveable, so I went to the Shelter office, got my estimate, was ready to leave and the guy wrote my check on the spot! The only part that took some time was getting an appointment at a body shop!

Im with Nationwide.. I called on a Wednesday, the adjuster came out on monday and before he left I had a check in my hand. I was impressed. I have heard horror stories about some insurance companies. I know my parents filed a claim on Sept 1st and have not seen an adjuster yet.. They sent someone to get the trees off the house and put the blue roof on. :smt102

I can't say to much from PERSONAL experience, but my best friend who lives on the coast was TALKED OUT of getting FLOOD insurance BY HIS AGENT! His agent said "If there's a broken window it'll be considered "wind damage" and will be covered by that portion of the policy". Of course with Katrina they got 3 1/2 feet of water in their house and the damage IS NOT covered. Jerks but I don't know who they are.

I have to give kudo's to Nationwide. Their adjuster came to the house, explained what what covered and than went the extra mile to help us. Had a check in hand for all damages and replacement to the house within 5 days.

Ditto noway and begginforrelief. Nationwide bent over backwards to make sure we were taken care of. We met with our insurance agent and reported the damage, they issued us an advance check, the adjuster came out about 4 days later, and we had our check within 3-4 more days to begin the repairs. I have heard all sorts of bad/negative things about other insurance companies, so I have to give Nationwide a big round of applause!

I have State Farm and they have yet to come to my house. I don't have that much damage though and am probably low on the list.
