Guess Who Ashton Kutcher, Bernie Mac dir.Kevin Rodney Sullivan
This harmless retread of the classic "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner", should be avoided unless you have absolutely nothing to do, are a big fan of either Ashton Kutcher or Bernie Mac, or are seriously craving light entertainment.
I fell into the latter category and was quickly bored with this trifle of a film.
First the good news, I liked the interplay between Bernie and Ashton..it was enjoyable. I liked some of the plot points, esp. those exploring race issues in America today.
But, the sitcom air of this one quickly dissipates as it morphs into a retelling of "Meet The Parents", before taking a jarring turn that will leave many viewers confused and speechless. Kutcher and Mac do their very best with these characters. While, they get them off the ground nicely...they hit turbulence and head for one-note performance land all too quickly.
With unlikable characters at the helm, director Kevin Rodney Sullivan quickly dishes out some supporting characters that work (the strong women in the film, esp. the well cast mother-daughter combination) but puts the whole show..I mean film through the same paces as a dozen failed WB and UPN sitcoms.
Guess Who won't be watching this one again...
